4. OLD BUSINESS
A. Poet Laureate Discussion
Attachments: Draft RFQ
Staff liaison Heitner presented a series of topics on the Poet Laureate RFQ that
needed further discussion. Heitner stated that he felt the project would be an
eligible expense through the IACA GOS grant.
Discussion was had on which events the Laureate would attend. Commissioner
Carmine commented that $1,500 would likely be a little low for two years worth
of work. Additional discussion was had on the expected volume of work and how
the expected work load might alter the proposed honorarium amount.
The subcommittee also discussed allowing qualified judges participate in the
evaluation committee, even if they do not live in Joliet. It was determined that
between three and five judges would be sufficient.
Commissioner Wright added that the sitting Poet Laureate should be a judge for
the next Poet Laureate.
Discussion was also had as to whether announcement of the winning person

would made during the live presentation or shortly thereafter.
Commissioner Gorder stated that he would update the RFQ as discussed by the
subcommittee.
B. Pop-Up Art Gallery Discussion
Staff liaison Heitner provided an overview of staff's excitement on the potential programming
of a pop-up art gallery. Heitner said he would like to get a better perspective of what specific
tasks might be required for the event to be executed and that an external event operator
might be necessary. Heitner stated that the Art Movement would be a natural partner.
Heitner detailed the potential items that would need Commission attention. It was determined
that the scope of the building would influence whether an external partner would be needed to
execute the gallery.
Commissioner Gorder stated that between the Commission and Art Movement, that a lot of
the programming tasks could be accomplished without an external partner. Gorder also stated
that two weeks would be necessary to install the artwork in the show. Commissioner Wright
stated that musicians would need to know of performing dates several months prior to dates .
Gorder provided several other dates for completion that would be needed for an October
event.
Heitner stated he would follow up with more direction by the next meeting.
C. Artist Corridor Discussion
The Commission agreed to table this item to prioritize the Poet Laureate and Pop-Up Gallery.
