Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final October 7, 2020
Pursuant to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan, the Illinois Department of Commerce &
Economic Opportunity's Guidelines recommend best practices that limit an in-person meeting
to 50 people or less (Council Chambers allows for 18 members of the public)while adhering to
social distancing guidelines.During meetings, any member of the public physically present in
the Council Chambers in excess of the limit will be asked to wait in another room with live
feed to the meeting until the Citizens To Be Heard on Agenda Items section or Public
Comments section of the meeting.
Pursuant to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Guidelines, it is
recommended that any individual appearing in-person wear a face-covering to cover their
nose and mouth.
Citizens who are unable to attend the meeting can register “To Be Called” to speak up to 24
hours in advance on theJoliet.gov “Public Comments” web page. Comments can also be
emailed in advance of the meeting to publiccomment@joliet.gov.

A motion was made by Erick Deshaun Dorris, seconded by Crystal Malone, to approve the
September 9, 2020 meeting minutes. The motion carried by the following vote:

NEXT STEPS AND FUTURE FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
Grant Opportunities and Deadlines
The subcommittee discussing and reviewed the grant opportunities that were introduced at
the last subcommittee meeting.
Campaign, scholarship, and/or fund in honor of related work
The subcommittee discussed the importance of partnerships in order to create opportunities
and connections with the community.
Walk of Fame
The subcommittee discussed the ideas of a walk of fame that would honor people who
have/are contributing to the artistic community. Potential locations, spaces, imagery and
logistics of the project were discussed.
Partnerships that can foster funding opportunities
The subcommittee discussed possible partnerships with local places within the city. How to
reach out to make these partnerships possible and next steps will need to be determined .
REVIEW TIMELINE FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
Preparations for City Council Meeting, October 19, 2020
The subcommittee discussed the details of the Council Meeting on October 19, 2020 where
Commission chairman Erick Dorris will make recommendations to the City Council.
Planning for Future Subcommittee Meetings
The subcommittee agreed the next meeting should take place on Wednesday, November 4,
2020 at 5:30 p.m.
Recommendations for Funding Subcommittee Members in the Future
Possible additional members will be discussed at future meetings.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Erick Dorris shared his plan for the Council presentation, including the layour and talking
points of the presentation. Crystal Malone shared information about ideas for an event that
could support the Arts in the future.
