City of Joliet 150 West Jefferson Street Joliet, IL 60432 Meeting Minutes - Final Wednesday, April 28, 2021 6:00 PM City Hall, Conference Room 1 Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Committee Members Eryn Blaser Erick Deshaun Dorris Roxianna Fuqua Crystal Malone Non-Voting Members Lizbeth Aviles Christina Bourne Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final April 28, 2021 Page 1 of 1 Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final April 28, 2021 Pursuant to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan, the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity's Guidelines recommend best practices that limit an in-person meeting to 50 people or less (Council Chambers allows for 18 members of the public) while adhering to social distancing guidelines. During meetings, any member of the public physically present in the Council Chambers in excess of the limit will be asked to wait in another room with live feed to the meeting until the Citizens To Be Heard on Agenda Items section or Public Comments section of the meeting has commenced. Speakers will be rotated into Council Chambers to allow everyone an opportunity to speak. Pursuant to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Guidelines, it is recommended that any individual appearing in-person wear a face-covering to cover their nose and mouth. Citizens who are unable to attend the meeting can email comments in advance of the meeting to publiccomment@joliet.gov. ROLL CALL Christina Bourne present via phone. Present Chairperson Eryn Blaser, Erick Deshaun Dorris, Crystal Malone, Lizbeth Aviles and Christina Bourne Absent Roxianna Fuqua APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Dorris, seconded by Malone, that the March 10, 2021 meeting minutes be approved. WELCOME & INTRODUCTIONS Non-Voting Subcommittee Members; Lizbeth Aviles and Christina Bourne introduced themselves, shared a little bit about their background and their excitement to be a part of the subcommittee. Non-Voting Subcommittee Member Introductions REVIEWING PRESENTATION TO THE ARTS COMMISSION ON MARCH 17 & APRIL 21, 2021 Page 1 of 3 Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final April 28, 2021 Grant Subcommittee discussed and reviewed over grant opportunities that were brought forth to the Arts Commission and from the last subcommittee meeting. The first grant was submitted before the deadline at the end of March. The subcommittee discussed the deadline and elements for the next grant opportunity with deadlines approaching in the near future. Partnerships The subcommittee discussed the partnership with local institutions and possible projects in the near future. The subcommittee discussed possible partnerships with local organizations, institutions, and places within the city. The subcommittee discussed the different elements, aspects, and future steps within The City Center Partnership, in conjunction with the City of Joliet Arts Commission call for artists and art work. The subcommittee discussed possible sponsorship opportunities. The subcommittee discussed looking into opportunities with health and arts as well. Fundraising Possibilities The subcommittee discussed a possible project that could create partnerships with local businesses, local organizations, and the Arts Commission. The subcommittee discussed ideas and on how these partnerships and collaborations could work. Recommendations for Non-Voting Subcommittee Members The subcommittee discussed future recommendations for Non-Voting Funding Subcommittee members to bring forward to the Arts Commissions for possible appointment. FUTURE FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES TO FOCUS ON IN 2021 Grant Opportunities The subcommittee discussed the future grant opportunity and the deadline that is approaching as well as looking at other opportunities. The subcommittee discussed looking, learning, and researching what other organizations and funding opportunities that are taking placing and available. Partnerships/Connections The subcommittee discussed the partnership with a local institutions and possible projects in the future. The subcommittee discussed what the Percent for Arts Program is about. The subcommittee discussed ideas and on how these partnerships and collaborations could work. The subcommittee discussed future plans and information to bring forward to the Arts Commission and City Council. REVIEW TIMELINE FOR FUTURE ITEMS Planning for Future Funding Subcommittee Meetings Thursday May 13th, 2021 and Thursday May 27th, 2021. The subcommittee discussed having future dates through the next few months planned a head for the next meeting. NEW OR OLD BUSINESS, NOT FOR FINAL ACTION OR RECOMMENDATION The subcommittee discussed having an event that brings all the Arts in Joliet together. The subcommittee discussed theme ideas, bringing back and honoring artists from Joliet, sponsorships, and working with the community for this possible event.
