City of Joliet 150 West Jefferson Street Joliet, IL 60432 Meeting Minutes - Final Thursday, June 10, 2021 6:00 PM City Hall, Conference Room 1 Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Committee Members Eryn Blaser Erick Deshaun Dorris Roxianna Fuqua Crystal Malone Non-Voting Members Lizbeth Aviles Christina Bourne Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final June 10, 2021 Page 1 of 1 Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final June 10, 2021 As Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan continues, Governor Pritzker is moving Illinois forward to a Bridge to Phase 5 mitigation on Friday, May 14, 2021. In order to adhere to social distancing guidelines, the capacity in Council Chambers will remain at 18 members of the public. During meetings, any member of the public physically present in the Council Chambers in excess of the limit will be asked to wait in another room with live feed to the meeting until the Citizens To Be Heard on Agenda Items section or Public Comments section of the meeting has commenced. Speakers will be rotated into Council Chambers to allow everyone an opportunity to speak. Pursuant to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Guidelines, it is recommended that any individual appearing in-person wear a face-covering to cover their nose and mouth. Citizens who are unable to attend the meeting can email comments in advance of the meeting to publiccomment@joliet.gov. ROLL CALL Present Chairperson Eryn Blaser, Erick Deshaun Dorris and Crystal Malone Absent Roxianna Fuqua, Lizbeth Aviles and Christina Bourne APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Dorris, seconded by Malone, that the May 13, 2021 meeting minutes be approved. REVIEWING PAST AND CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES Grant Update Subcommittee discussed, reviewed, and researching other possible grant opportunities. The subcommittee discussed the American Rescue Plan Act funding and urging city council to pass an investment for the next four years for the for the relief and recovery of Joliet’s creative sector. The subcommittee discussed the importance and what the funds could support. CCP in Conjunction with the Arts Commission Project The subcommittee discussed the different elements, aspects, and future steps within The City Center Partnership, in conjunction with the City of Joliet Arts Commission call for artists and art work. The subcommittee discussed the timeline of where the project is currently, which artists are working on the creation of the art pieces. Page 1 of 3 Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final June 10, 2021 FUTURE FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES TO FOCUS ON IN 2021 Grant Opportunities The subcommittee discussed doing research and finding and figuring out other grant opportunities. Budget Forecasting The subcommittee discussed possible future funding opportunities and doing research. Partnerships/Collaborations The subcommittee discussed looking into opportunities with health and arts. The subcommittee discussed collaborations with the Will County Health Department and local artists. JALA The subcommittee discussed having an event that brings all the Arts in Joliet together. The subcommittee discussed theme ideas, bringing back and honoring artists from Joliet, sponsorships, and working with the community for this possible event. The subcommittee discussed planning and focusing on this event in 2022. Art Walk The subcommittee discussed a possible collaborative event that could create partnerships with local businesses, local organizations, and the Arts Commission. The subcommittee discussed ideas and logistics of this event as well as future planning Other Ideas None. REVIEW TIMELINE FOR FUTURE ITEMS The subcommittee discussed having the next Funding Subcommittee meeting on Thursday July 1st, 2021. Planning for Future Funding Subcommittee Meetings NEW OR OLD BUSINESS, NOT FOR FINAL ACTION OR RECOMMENDATION The subcommittee briefly revisited the raffle plan and reiterated the potential need for a special meeting.
