Desiderio City Council Meeting Meeting Minutes - Final March 2, 2021 Page 1 of 1 City Council Meeting Meeting Minutes - Final March 2, 2021 Pursuant to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan, the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity's Guidelines recommend best practices that limit an in-person meeting to 50 people or less (Council Chambers allows for 18 members of the public) while adhering to social distancing guidelines. During meetings, any member of the public physically present in the Council Chambers in excess of the limit will be asked to wait in another room with live feed to the meeting until the Citizens To Be Heard on Agenda Items section or Public Comments section of the meeting has commenced. Speakers will be rotated into Council Chambers to allow everyone an opportunity to speak. Pursuant to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Guidelines, it is recommended that any individual appearing in-person wear a face-covering to cover their nose and mouth. Turk Abstain: Mayor Robert O'Dekirk CITY MANAGER: The City Manager briefly discussed the city's water infrastructure and stated the city is accepting police officer applications. Mayor O'Dekirk brief discussed having members of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners at the next Council Meeting to discuss their efforts for finding qualified candidates for the city's open fire and police positions. NEW BUSINESS (Not for Final Action or Recommendation): Councilman Hug briefly spoke regarding Dr. Bailey being an example of love and a need to stop hatred in society. Councilwoman Quillman requested the Council revisit placing a moratorium on puppy mill breeders. Fire Chief Blaskey gave an update on COVID-19 vaccinations. A brief discussion was held regarding the availability of the vaccines, volunteers, the differences in the doses, and the State's future allotments of the vaccines. Details can be found on the Joliet.gov “Public Comments” web page. Jerry Hervey spoke regarding concerns on Chief Roechner and Deputy Chief Gavin's retirement package. MAYOR AND COUNCIL COMMENTS: Councilman Morris stated the Land Use and Legislative meeting will be held on March 10th at 4pm with one item for discussion being the Citizen Review Board. Councilman Hug requested a review of the recent retirement packages for Police Chief and Deputy Chief and report back to Council. Councilman Mudron thanked the volunteers for administering the COVID-19 vaccinations. Councilwoman Reardon stated those who have received their vaccinations are extremely thankful and she hopes the area will continue to receive vaccinations. Councilwoman Gavin thanked the Smith Family, owners of the YMCA that is closing on Briggs Street, for their years service to the east side community. Mayor O'Dekirk thanked Amita Health St. Joseph Medical Center for his recent treatment. He stated the State of the City will be rescheduled for March 22nd at 11am at the Holiday Inn with limited in-person attendance, but will be held virtually through the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
