Turk ALSO PRESENT: City of Joliet: Chris Regis - Inspector General, Derek Conley - Director of Economic Development , James Ghedotte - Director of Finance, Brent Fraser - Building Engineer; Joliet Slammers: Nick Semaca - President, Heather Mills - General Manager, and John Wilson - Vice President Sales and Marketing; Bob Navarro - President Heritage Corridor; Bob Okon - Herald News CITIZENS TO BE HEARD ON AGENDA ITEMS No emails were received and no one was present to speak. YEAR END REVIEW Slammers' General Manager Heather Mills discussed the creation of a mini-league due to COVID-19, recruiting for the mini-league, COVID game restrictions, press coverage of games, and streaming of the games, including Joliet's exposure since most professional games were cancelled last year. Slammers' Vice President of Sales & Marketing John Wilson discussed Major League Baseball's (MLB) support of the modified season by allowing affiliated players to participate in the mini-league, and bringing high level talent and coaching to the area. President Nick Semaca discussed 43 affiliated baseball teams were cut, Kane County Cougars no longer MLB affiliated, and the Frontier League being a partner of MLB . A brief discussion was held regarding the cutting of Major League affiliated teams, release of players, and recruiting talent. Mr. Semaca briefly discussed challenges for the upcoming 2021 season. RENT RESTRUCTURING A brief discussion was held regarding a rent restructuring of 6% of total revenue going toward rent. The proposed 6% will be brought before the entire Council. Bob Navarro, President - Heritage Corridor, spoke regarding the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 IHSA Boy's State Baseball Tournament and extending the City's contract with IHSA for 2022 and 2023. A brief discussion was held to pursue the extension of the contract with IHSA. PUBLIC COMMENT No emails were received and no one was present to speak. Turk Tuesday, January 12, 2021 4:30 PM City Hall, Council Chambers The Governor’s Office and the Illinois Department of Public Health activated a Tier 3 mitigation plan for all regions of the State of Illinois, effective Friday, November 20, 2020. In an effort to support these mitigation measures, the City of Joliet is limiting in person attendance in the council chambers to 10 people. During meetings, groups of 10 people will be staged in various locations within city hall. These groups will wait in areas with a live feed to the meeting until the Citizens to Be Heard on Agenda items section, the Public Hearing has commenced or the Public Comments section of the meeting has commenced. Speakers will be rotated into Council Chambers to allow everyone an opportunity to speak. Pursuant to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Guidelines, it is recommended that any individual appearing in-person wear a face-covering to cover their nose and mouth. Citizens who are unable to attend the meeting can email comments in advance of the meeting to publiccomment@joliet.gov OR register “To Be Called To Speak”.
