City of Joliet 150 West Jefferson Street Joliet, IL 60432 Meeting Minutes - Pending Approval Wednesday, May 5, 2021 3:30 PM City Hall, Council Chambers Water Conservation Committee Commission Members Maria Rafac Marc Kaufman Richard Rodriguez Water Conservation Committee Meeting Minutes - Pending Approval May 5, 2021 Page 1 of 1 Water Conservation Committee Meeting Minutes - Pending Approval May 5, 2021 Pursuant to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan, the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity's Guidelines recommend best practices that limit an in-person meeting to 50 people or less (Council Chambers allows for 18 members of the public) while adhering to social distancing guidelines. During meetings, any member of the public physically present in the Council Chambers in excess of the limit will be asked to wait in another room with live feed to the meeting until the Citizens To Be Heard on Agenda Items section or Public Comments section of the meeting has commenced. Speakers will be rotated into Council Chambers to allow everyone an opportunity to speak. Pursuant to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Guidelines, it is recommended that any individual appearing in-person wear a face-covering to cover their nose and mouth. Citizens who are unable to attend the meeting can email comments in advance of the meeting to publiccomment@joliet.gov. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes 2-3-21 ID-374-20 Attachments: Meeting Minutes 2-3-21 This approval for the February 3, 2021 Water Conservation Committee Meeting will be moved to the next meeting in June. Not enough members to approve. Minutes 4-7-21 ID-375-20 Attachments: 4-7-21 Meeting Minutes.pdf A motion was made by Marc Kaufman, seconded by Maria Rafac, to approve the Minutes of the April 7, 2021 Water Conservation Committee Meeting. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: Rafac and Kaufman Absent: Rodriguez CITIZENS TO BE HEARD ON AGENDA ITEMS No one was in attendance. DISCUSSION: REBATE PROGRAMS UPDATE Amy Ferris, Deputy Director - Engineering, discussed the Rain Barrel and Low Flow Toilet rebate status. Also discussed were the summer interns. DISCUSSION: WEBSITE UPDATES Page 1 of 2 Water Conservation Committee Meeting Minutes - Pending Approval May 5, 2021 Amy Ferris discussed updates made to the Website for Drinking Water Week. DISCUSSION: RESTAURANT INITIATIVE UPDATE - INTERN Amy Ferris brought in the table tent sample for the Committee to review. We have 12 stands and can order more once the intern speaks with restaurants. DISCUSSION: COMMUNITY WATER CONSERVATION EFFORTS The committee discussed that several summer events are not taking place due to Covid . The Public Utilities Department is working on an event of our own for this year. DISCUSSION: EDUCATION EFFORTS FOR AREA SCHOOLS - UPDATES Maria Ana Rafac discussed that she is going to seek another avenue for contacts. Amy Ferris discussed that part of the Alternative Source campaign was putting together videos to be geared toward age groups (elementary / middle school / high school) then educational materials could be put on the City of Joliet website. DISCUSSION: ISTC WATER AUDITS UPDATE Amy Ferris discussed the letter that was mailed to large water users on 4/19/21 for a Free water audit for water efficiency & conservation. DISCUSSION: ILLINOIS PLUMBING CODE UPDATE No new updates per Jeff Freeman of EEI. NEW OR OLD BUSINESS, NOT FOR FINAL ACTION OR RECOMMENDATION Marc Kaufman is moving and this is his last meeting. A committee member replacement will need to be found. PUBLIC COMMENT No one in attendance. NOTE: There is a new temporary procedure for public speaking.
