I. Call to order
a. at 5:10pm
II. Agenda Changes
a. Per the request of Susan Baxter to discuss FILCOM funds
III. Approval of the Minutes from Eli
a. Approved for August 2016 minutes
IV. Student Introductions and Potluck
i. Miranda created a Google Drive Folder for the Sister Cities
Committee
b. Assembly
i. Meet the City Assembly on November 7th to present the
exchange students at 7:05pm at City Hall
c. Potluck
i. Cancelled potluck, and revised plan to attempt for event during
the International Education Week November 14th-18th, have
informal luncheon at UAS, invite all the exchange students to
participate, contact all their host families and host groups to
coordinate their arrivals and departures.
ii. Ask the exchange students to provide a picture of their
hometown/country to bring to the luncheon at least one week
in advance. Have them email them to Marsha.
V. Airport display case – Change out
a. Chloie contacted the Airport, left a message; they will get back to us on
a date and time for changing the display cases to items from Russia for
next week.
VI. Inventory from Sister City Items
a. Barbara revised the folder which detail all the gifts to Juneau from
other cities, and place everything in boxes at city hall
VII. Sign-post
a. Next to Glacier Silt Co., they own it and have no intention of changing
it
b. Compromise, contact the JAHC and have them create their own sign
post in from of the JAHC building to attract tourists
VIII. Meeting with Mayor Ken Koelsch
a. Wait for the January/February meeting
IX. Kalibo Update
a. Direct contact
i. Contact still needs to be made to the Mayor Lachicas office in
Kalibo asking for them to have their sister cities committee
contact us directly, as the FILCOM has given us permission to contact
them directly, instead of going through them.
ii. FILCOM has also contacted the committee requesting we take the
funds they have raised for Kalibo and place them into our
committee’s bank account to be encumbered exclusively for Kalibo
related expenses.
b. Cathy Munoz office contact
i. Marsha will try to contact Cathy to explain the differences for the
visa’s J-visa vs F-Visa.
c. Sanitation contact
d. Presents for this fall
e. Chamber of Commerce
f. Teacher exchange – K-12
g. Rotary Club
h. Survey of Kalibo Juneau residents
i. Brainstorm other possibilities
i. Find out if the Rainforest Classic will happen next year
ii. Forward bio information and picture to Miranda
X. Becoming a Coast Guard City
a. Work on becoming a Coast Guard City; inform the city about the many
possible activities that they could provide to make this city more coast guard
friendly.
