Amended Sister Cities, Assembly Advisory Board Meeting October 10, 2016; 5 p.m. Bartlett Foundation Conference Room Committee Member: Maria Uchytil (Co-Chair) Marsha Squires (UAS Liaison/Member) Eli Olson (Secretary) Barbara Burnett (Member) Miranda McCarty (Member) I. Call to order a. Called to order by Maria at 5:10pm II. Agenda Changes a. Will be introducing the foreign exchange students to the Assembly on November 7th instead of October 17th III. Approval of the Minutes a. Approved by unanimous vote IV. Introducing students at Assembly – November 7th V. School board date TBD a. Miranda contacted the school district and talked to the assistant of the Superintendent, and is waiting for a call back VI. Sign post Update VII. Per Miranda, a quote is that it would cost for fish shaped sign posts around $4000-$6000. VIII. Filcom money a. Postpone for next meeting when the treasurer Chloe Watson can attend IX. International Education Week a. All high School exchange students (Rotarians, AFS, YES students) have been contacted and we are waiting for their responses. b. When asked directly, they have stated that the students manage their own schedules, and that we would need to contact each student individually to see if they would be interested in leaving school during the day and driving them out for a tour of UAS. And per Marsha, funds of $150.00 have been raised to provide a lunch for all the students who want to attend. Marsha will be the one to pick the date of the tour November 15th-17th. c. The tour of UAS will include a: i. Talk of American culture 1. Perceptions 2. Sports teams 3. College life 4. Student life 5. Community service ii. Photo display 1. 3 of the students have already agreed to provided photos from their hometowns for the photo display X. Sister Cities Holiday card  a. We as a committee would like to send out a formal Holiday New Year’s card to our active Sister Cities: White Horse, Kalibo, and Vladivostok. b. We would also like to send greeting in the cards in both English and the native languages. c. We would also like to provide a bio of each committee member and a photo to show each year that our new members are. d. We would also like to provide them on updates of all our sister cities events of the past year: i. 4th of July, the RCMP’s marching in the parade ii. Potluck Dinner iii. International Education Week iv. etc. XI. Sister City Committee newsletter XII. Sister City status Chia Yi, Mishan City a. Pending for reply from Sister Cities International to Sue Baxter XIII.
