authorizing a $14,788,000.00 construction contract with MegaKC Corporation, for the
Birmingham Headworks and Electrical Improvements project; authorizing a maximum
expenditure of $16,266,800.00; authorizing a $2,263,344.81 Amendment No. 2 to a design

authorizing an extension of the term of the design professional services contract with CDM
Smith, Inc., for an additional 2 years 9 months for a total term of 8 years 9 months.
Jeff Martin and Blake Anderson, KC Water, presented. This ordinance authorizes a
construction contract with MegaKC Corp. and an extension of the design professional
services amendment’s term with CDM Smith. The initial design work for the Birmingham
Wastewater Treatment Plant involves grit removal, aeration, and digester improvements.
This project was delayed and modified due to budget constraints. Aeration improvements
were removed due to possible consent decree modifications, and digester improvements
were found to be impractical. During the initial design, the condition of the electrical
equipment at the plant was found to be poor and requires significant upgrades. The scope
of work for the construction project includes the following: Installation of a new
headwork's facility within and above the existing grit basin, construction of a new
electrical room adjacent to the new headwork's facility, modifications to the existing
control building, installation of a new slide gate, and electrical improvements to replace
aging electrical infrastructure. A copy of presentation is available in the office of the City
Clerk for reference and review.
