Chairperson Hammersmith welcomed and introduced Tereasa Banks, who was recently appointed to the committee. To help familiarize everyone, attending members each took a moment to introduce themselves, sharing how long they have lived in Lombard and what motivated them to become involved with the committee. 2.0 Roll Call Present 7 - Jessica Hammersmith, Pamela Bedard, Kaveria Lezza, Sharon Vish, Megan McVane, Gladys Piper, and Tereasa Banks Absent 3 - Michael Ledonne, Madison Smith, and Lindsey Khan Also present: Stephanie Calvillo, Communications Coordinator. 3.0 Public Participation 4.0 Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Megan McVane, seconded by Pam Bedard, to approve the minutes of the June 9, 2025, committee meeting. The motion passed by unanimous vote. Village of Lombard Page 1 Community Relations Committee Minutes September 8, 2025 5.0 Old Business 250311 National Community Survey Results Staff will present the findings from the most recent National Community Survey and provide a summary handout. Committee members will have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss key takeaways. Staff distributed a handout summarizing key highlights from the National Community Survey (NCS) and demonstrated how to access the full report through the Village’s website. In addition, staff shared examples of the social media campaign promoting the survey findings to the community. Chairperson Hammersmith discussed how the results will inform and support ongoing strategic planning efforts. She encouraged members to review the data and consider potential initiatives or programs that could help address areas receiving lower ratings. Members were invited to share their ideas and suggestions with her for further discussion. 250209 Senior Fair - 2025 Event update Staff will provide an update on the planning efforts for the 2025 Senior Fair, scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Madison Meadow Athletic Center. The update will include confirmed vendors, promotional strategies, and next steps. Staff provided an update on preparations for the 19th Annual Senior Fair. All vendor booth spaces have been filled, and a list of participating vendors was shared with the committee. Staff noted that several organizations are already on a waitlist. An email will be sent to confirmed vendors with additional event details and a request for them to notify staff if their participation plans change, which would allow staff to offer available spots to those on the waitlist. Marketing efforts for the event are launching this week, including a press release, flyer, direct mail outreach to senior living facilities in Lombard and a social media campaign to promote the event. Committee members were invited to volunteer and assist during the fair; those interested are encouraged to contact staff directly. 6.0 New Business Village of Lombard Page 2 Community Relations Committee Minutes September 8, 2025 250313 Senior Man and Woman of the Year Staff will present the nominations for the 2025 Senior Man and Woman of the Year awards. Following the discussion, the committee will vote to select this year's honorees. Staff presented the six nominations submitted for the annual Senior Man and Woman of the Year recognition. After reviewing all nominees, the committee selected Carol and Jim Wixon as this year’s honorees. The recipients will be presented with an award during the upcoming Senior Fair. In addition, all nominees will receive certificates of recognition in appreciation of their contributions to the community. 7.0 Other Business 8.0 Information Only Committee Member McVane shared information on MOVE (Multimodal Overexaggerated Volitional Exercise), a free bootcamp-style exercise program for individuals with Parkinson’s, offered in partnership with the Madison Meadow Athletic Center. The fall session runs October 14 - November 14, with nine 90-minute sessions held Tuesdays and Fridays at 3:00 p.m. Brochures were distributed, and members were encouraged to share the information with potential participants. 9.0 Adjournment A motion to adjourn was made by Pam Bedard, and seconded by Tereasa Banks at 6:55 p.m. The motion to adjourn passed unanimously.
