070424 Clean Air Counts
Gorman reported the Village is still seeing a significant cost savings from the
anti-idling campaign.
080026 2008 Recycling Extravaganza
Chairperson Gron commented that the Extravaganza was well attended. The
estimate is over 400 cars and 70,000-90,000 lbs of electronics.
Chairperson Gron told the Committee that Todd Gibson from Vintage Tech
suggested the Committee consider putting an electronics recycling container in a
location where people could recycle all the time. The Village would have to find a
place to put it and they would pick it up at no cost. Lyons asked if the Village would
have to pay somebody to stand there and unload the cars. Bartt explained that it
would be an unmanned drop off. Chairperson Gron further answered that the only
responsibility the Village would have would be to open the gate in the morning and
lock it at night. He went on to inform the committee that per Senate Bill, as of
January 1, 2012 landfills will be prohibited from accepting electronic devices.
The following comments were made:
PW Staff handled it well
Vintage Tech did great
Garden Club collected approximately 200 pots
Battery collection was good, approximately 2 pallets (3 high)
Site was good, use it again
About 25% of volunteers showed. Gave letter of credit to all who showed up (even if
they were turned away)
Volunteers were given mixed messages

6.0 Other Business
Chairperson Gron said that Jim Kleinwatcher from the Conservation Foundation
suggested that the Village sponsor a rain barrel sale instead of people purchasing
them from various locations. He has a program through which the Village can pre-sell
barrels, give him the order and on a day we have an event, like during Lilac Time he
will set up a booth and residents who have purchased barrels can pick them up there
and he will conduct classes on how to set up the barrel correctly. He will offer barrels
for $65/barrel, his municipal price. He also has a little stool for the barrel to sit on.
