050616 Current Solid Waste Contract - Update
Gorman shared the current tonnage report that had been provided yb
Mike Brink prior to the meeting.
120039 2012 Recycling Extravaganza
Chairperson Fitzpatrick thanked all for a very well-run event - it went
very smoothly. Schukat said that the registration went very well
thanks to Diana’s terrific spreadsheet. Jendras said that the tables
along the east side of the book tent worked out well to provide
volunteers space from book finders. Jendras also said that most of
the VHS tapes are old and of no interest. Gorman said that Vintage
Tech can’t recycle them since they bind up their grinder and, thus, we
won’t collect them next year. People may recycle the plastic
component but the rest should be landfilled.
120364 Fall Trails Cleanup & Buckthorn Removal
Gorman went over the plan for the event on 11/10. Cooper and Smith
will help. Chairperson Fitzpatrick suggested putting it on the Village’s
Facebook page.

6.0 New Business
120552 Sustainability Award
Gorman went over the Board of Trustees policy memo. He requested
that any nominations be brought to the next meeting. He added that
the Westin’s Engineering Director will be at the next meeting to
discuss their sustainable action plan. Gorman, Fitzpatrick and Lyons
had attended the Earth Flag ceremony where the presentation had
been given, and all three believe that the Westin would be a worthy
recipient of the Village’s Sustainability Award.
120553 Community Recycling Fund Update
Gorman went over the memo provided in the packet. After some
discussion, it was decided that any action to allocate the project
surplus for FY13 would be decided at the January meeting as part of a
comprehensive review of the various grant programs and procedures.
7.0 Other Business
Lyons asked about the possibility of enacting an ordinance to require
recycling for multi-family and commercial properties. Brink said that
there are municipalities with such an ordinance, including Algonquin.
Chairperson Fitzpatrick asked Staff and Brink to look into options to
consider. Lyons asked about the status of the dog registration.
Gorman said the Polic Department is responsible for this and that he
recently attended a meeting with them. They anticipate that the new
system will be online well before the end of the year and the Police
Department is planning on using the water bills, PRIDE Newsletter
and press releases to advertise the new system.
