050616 Current Solid Waste Contract - Update
Gorman: distributed the current waste tonnage numbers that were
provided by Waste Management. The yard tonnage is much lower
than normal due to the dry weather. This results in a lower overall
diversion rate since yard waste is diverted from landfills.

Saturday, September 21, 2013
Mr. Spodin took a photo of the Committee with the banner. Gorman:
explained that all vendors have confirmed their participation and all
arrangements are in order. The volunteer registrations are only at five
but that is to be expected since the schools have just started. Letters
have gone out to all of the typical group leaders and we will see the
registrations accelerate soon. Ms. LaVaque is again handling them
but she couldn't attend the meeting tonight due to a family affair.
Brink: confirmed that the mailer will be send and that the roll-offs,

110589 Mosquito Abatement Program Update
Gorman: shared the monthly report from July and explained that
Clarke sends him e-mails as their technicians treat catch basins and
open water areas. Explained the history of the contract and the goal
of the program which is to eliminate Culex Pipens mosquitoes in their
larval stage. Spraying is done for the adult mosquitoes at the Taste of
Lombard and a provision is in the contract for spraying at about
$10,000 per treatment. As the Culex Pipens mosquito has
approximately a 7-day time from egg to adult, weekly spraying would
be needed for adult control. Due to the effectiveness as well as the
cost, the Village has concentrated on the larvacide program as the
best practice to control this disease vector. Mosquitoes are currently
testing positive for West Nile Virus so health agencies are urging
eliminating standing water areas in yards and the use of insect
repellent and/or long clothing, particularly at dusk and dawn.
Chairman Fugiel will attend a DuPage Mayors and Managers
Conference Dinner on September 18th where the topic of a regional
mosquito services contract will be discussed.
130032 Lombard Electric Aggregation Results
Gorman: the Village's specification of carbon-free electric sources has
resulted in 33,189 MWh free of greenhouse gas.
9.0 Adjournment
