Village of Lombard Page 1 Lombard Historical Commission Minutes March 10, 2016 The photos were rearranged as requested however the watermark of the map was not adjusted or the change from portrait to landscape orientation as requested. Commissioner Fetters suggested that shifting the text down slightly may make the CA&E logo more visible however in its current state the map is obscured to the point of being illegible. The map should be a key element of the signs. Mr. Goldsmith reported that staff met with Dan Thomas, Principal Planner, DuPage County Division of Transportation on March 26, 2016 about how to handle the logistics of installing the signs. Mr. Thomas stated that he personally does not approve the signs however the permit that the Village has on file with DuPage County can be amended to include the location of the signs for review. Also at this meeting, concern was raised about the amount of text on the signage that may be overwhelming and not read by most people using the Prairie Path. Perhaps a QR code or website link or some other form of communication as recommended by Ms. Meade could be used instead to make room for more photographs. Ms. Meade recommended logos for Instagram, Twitter, Facebook etc. on the signs would be more effective to create awareness. Arranging the text in bullet points or columns instead of paragraphs would update the appearance. In addition, the logo for the Village on the signs is an older version and she could send the most current logo to Ms. Urish to be forwarded to the sign company. Commissioner Novak volunteered to work with Commissioner Fetters to revise the text. Commissioner Novak clarified that the permission granted by Larry Plachno was for the specific photograph only and not other photographs in the book. Commissioner Novak voiced concern for the signs being useful for people with smart phones or computers only, not everyone has access to a computer. Mr. Goldsmith stated that he would work on the amendment for the permit with DuPage County and asked the committee if there were any other signs in the works that he could include. Commissioner Fetters stated that he would like to include the station for the Chicago and North Western Railroad and possibly a sign at each end of the Great Western Path in Lombard with a total of three signs. The story would be somewhat different since the line was generally for freight with passenger traffic being rare. New Business No new business was discussed.
