Village of Lombard Village Hall 255 East Wilson Ave. Lombard, IL 60148 villageoflombard.org Minutes Monday, July 13, 2015 7:00 PM Village Manager's Conference Room Public Safety & Transportation Committee Trustee Dan Whittington, Chairperson Trustee Mike Fugiel, Alternate Chairperson Jennifer Perkins, Michael Corso, John Larkin, John Schwarz, Robert Corbino, Gary Cation, Jerry Schaefer and John Mullins Public Safety & Transportation Minutes July 13, 2015 Committee 1.0 Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Whittington at 7:02 p.m. 2.0 Roll Call Michael Corso arrived at 7:25 p.m. Present 6 - Trustee Dan Whittington, Jennifer Perkins, Michael Corso, John Larkin Jr., John Schwarz, and Bob Corbino Absent 3 - Gary Cation, Jerry Shaefer, and John Mullins 3.0 Public Participation 4.0 Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Bob Corbino, seconded by John Larkin, Jr., that this the Minutes of the June 8, 2015 meeting be approved. The motion carried unanimously. 5.0 Introduction of Revised Committee Responsibilities 150310 Introduction Comments from the Chairperson Chairperson Whittington welcomed the committee members and reviewed the new responsibilities for the committee. The committee will now review and provide input on new policies that effect public safety policies as well as continue to review traffic requests. Scott Niehaus addressed the committee as well, emphasizing the importance of resident involvement in making Village policies. 150307 Police Department Policy Orientation Chief Byrne gave a presentation regarding the structure and activities of the Police Department. 150308 Fire Department Policy Orientation Chief Dirienzo gave a presentation regarding the structure and activities of the Police Department. 150309 Role of Staff Liaisons Some of the traffic issues will now be handled by the Police Village of Lombard Page 1 Public Safety & Transportation Minutes July 13, 2015 Committee Department. Matthew Lew (Public Works) and Sgt. Joe Grage will be resources for traffic complaints. It is expected that if a particular department does not have anything on the agenda, their staff may not be in attendance at a meeting. 6.0 Unfinished Business 150166 Intersection of Wilson & Edgewood, Pedestrian Crossing Sign A resident request to remove the sign. (DISTRICT #6) The committee members updated Chairperson Whittington on the issue. Wirsing advised that there was concern from residents using the park, because the park was getting so busy. Lew added that the MUTCD changed from yield to pedestrians to stop for pedestrians. General discussion ensued regarding the pedestrian signage by Glenbard East High School. A motion was made by Michael Corso, seconded by John Larkin, Jr., that this request be tabled. The motion passed by an unanimous vote. 7.0 New Business 8.0 Other Business Perkins commented that at eastbound Parkside at Grace you can not see the illuminated No Left Turn sign during the daytime hours. The white arrow is not visible. Lew replied that Public Works is currently working with the vendor to have the sign replaced. If staff can't come to terms with that vendor new signage will be installed in its place. Corso asked when the committee would be reviewing yield signs. Lew answered that the yield sign discussion will be brought to the committee when the signs are up for replacement in the fall. 9.0 Information Only 10. Adjournment 0 A motion was made by Bob Corbino, seconded by John Schwarz, that there being no further business the meeting be adjourned at 8:00 p.m. The motion carried unanimously.
