Gerhardt Community Room Public Safety & Transportation Committee Trustee Dan Whittington, Chairperson Andrew Honig, Alternate Chairperson Jennifer Perkins, Michael Corso, John Larkin, Robert Corbino, Gary Cation, John Mullins and Rick Miller Public Safety & Transportation Minutes October 2, 2019 Committee 1.0 Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Whittington at 7:00 PM. 2.0 Roll Call Present 7 - Dan Whittington, Gary Cation, Bob Corbino, John Cullen, Michael Corso, John Larkin Jr., and Jennifer Perkins 3.0 Public Participation Mr. Johnson thanked Sgt. Menolascino for the added police attention and the installation of the radar sign. He went on to say there is still a lot of traffic on Main St., however, there has been a positive impact from the additional police presence. Sgt. Menolascino reviewed the results from the radar and physical police presence. Tickets were written and the follow-up shows that the radar is working. It will be left on Main St. until it is needed elsewhere. Rick Miller introduced himself to the committee and explained he is a possible candidate to become a committee member. 4.0 Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Bob Corbino, seconded by John Larkin, Jr., that the minutes of the August 7, 2019 meeting be approved. The motion carried unanimously. 5.0 Unfinished Business 6.0 New Business 190414 500 Block S. Main Street, Speeding Concern A resident request to reduce the speed limit to 25 mph on S. Main Street between Madison and Washington. (DISTRICT# 1, 5 & 6) See the discussion noted under Public Participation. 7.0 Other Business 190378 Fire Station 45 Space Needs Analysis DC Kickert explainted that a study was done to see if we could utilize the space in a better fashion. This is just preliminary and the changes would only be internal, the footprint will not change. 190379 ISO Report Village of Lombard Page 1 Public Safety & Transportation Minutes October 2, 2019 Committee DC Kickert told the committee that ISO performed an operations evaluation resulting in our classification being upgraded to a 2 from a 3, with 1 being the best. 190380 LFD Response Area Modification DC Kickert explained that Lombard used to respond to this area and then it was incorporated into Glen Ellyn's response area. However, the response time from Glen Ellyn to get to these homes was untimely, so we are working with Glen Ellyn and Tom Bayer to again include these homes in Lombard's response area. The Village will receive funding from Glen Ellyn for these services. 8.0 Information Only 150468 Fire Department Reports/Information - New Fire Engine Purchase DC Kickert reviewed the reports. He also mentioned that the Fire Department Open House is October 9th. 150469 Police Department Reports/Information Sgt. Menolascino said that he still cannot generate reports due to a software glitch. He mentioned that Railroad Safety week was September 22nd-28th. Officers spent time at the station and and the crossings and issued some citations/warnings for driving over the crossing while the lights and bells are still on. LPD worked with Metra and Union Pacific. Discussion ensued regarding METRA covering the investigation when there is a person hit by a train. Metra police cover the investigations and LPD provides support. He also spoke about a speeding issue on the 500 block S. Park where the department will do some extra patrol. 9.0 Adjournment Cation and Larkin at 7:24 PM. A motion was made by Gary Cation, seconded by John Larkin, Jr., to adjourn the meeting at 7:24 PM.
