Brust: attending this meeting to make sure that snow can be removed
from the sidewalk and deposited into the street. I am more concerned
about the safety of the residents and the clients that are in the Village
and in the downtown area of Lombard. Scott: also, with all of the salt
being thrown off of the street it kills a lot of our vegetation . Brust: just
want to make sure that the best interests of the Village of Lombard are
being protected.

(DISTRICTS #1, #4 & #5)
Goldsmith: reviewed the changes that staff made to the Commercial
Corridor Snow Removal Policy. One of the major changes is the
removal of the 6 inch minimum. Brust: there are times when the
plows deposit more snow on our sidewalks after 12 hours. Ware: we
understand that there are times that will happen. Goldsmith: when
there is a situation like that we will certainly make exceptions. Arnold:
could I ask Mr. Brust to call us if he notices that the snow is being
thrown way beyond the sidewalk area. Brust: that would be fine.
Goldsmith: we have started using different chemicals for ice/snow
treatments. Discussion ensued. Arnold: asked about residential
streets having snow blown or plowed into the street. Goldsmith: we
do have personnel that drive around and look for these types of
situations. It is a very hard situation to enforce. Bachner: brought up
the fact that it states does not pertain to residential properties. Need
to make sure that is taken out. Ware: directed staff to take care of
this.
Brust: also would like to suggest that the Village asks the businesses
to shovel the sewers in front of their businesses. Certainly cuts down
on the amount of ice and allows the water to flow.
A motion was made by David Arnold, seconded by John Kaforski, that this
Request be recommended to the Board of Trustees for Approval . The motion
passed by an unanimous vote.

7.0 Other Business
Mahal: on St. Charles east of Main Street. Those poles are getting
worse and worse. Goldsmith: we are looking at all of those poles,
removing and repairing them, and also looking at the quantity there.
Mahal: with the new process we are down on salt usage - are we
going with the new process more than the salt? Goldsmith: it
depends on the weather - we have been trying to apply the brine prior
to the snow falling or ice accumulating. Discussion ensued regarding
the brine applications and trucks available to apply it. Goldsmith:
addressed the wind-rowing operation and the new equipment that has
been ordered. Will definitely be saving a lot of money once we get the

new equipment. Arnold: even though the brine works well, the
intersections are still slippery and need salt. Goldsmith: we are still
salting. The purpose of the brine is to get something out there during
the day on regular hours which helps to keep the work force intact.
