Transportation & Safety Committee Trustee Reid Foltyniewicz - Chairperson Trustee Mike Fugiel - Alternate Chairperson Michael Corso, John Larkin, John Schwarz, Bob Corbino, Jerry Schaefer, Jennifer Perkins, Gary Cation and John Mullins Staff Liaisons: Deputy Chief Tom Wirsing - Police Department and Matthew Lew - Public Works Department Transportation & Safety Committee Minutes July 14, 2014 1.0 Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Foltyniewicz at 7:02 p.m. 2.0 Roll Call Present 6 - Trustee Reid Foltyniewicz, Michael Corso, Bob Corbino, Jennifer Perkins, Gary Cation, and John Mullins Absent 3 - John Larkin Jr., John Schwarz, and Jerry Shaefer Staff Present: Matthew Lew, Civil Engineer, Public Works Department Deputy Chief Newton, Police Department 3.0 Public Participation 4.0 Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Jennifer Perkins, seconded by Gary Cation, that the Minutes of the May 12, 2014 meeting be approved. The motion carried unanimously. 5.0 Unfinished Business 6.0 New Business 140259 Stop Sign Request, Intersection of Brewster and Hickory A resident request to install a 4-Way Stop. (DISTRICT #1) Lew reviewed the request. A motion was made by Gary Cation, seconded by Michael Corso, that this Request be denied . The motion passed by an unanimous vote. 140260 Stop Sign Request, Intersection of Cortland and Lombard A request from a business to install a stop sign. (DISTRICT #1) Lew reviewed the request. A motion was made by John Mullins, seconded by Jennifer Perkins, that this Request be tabled until area construction is completed. The motion passed by an unanimous vote. Village of Lombard Page 1 Transportation & Safety Committee Minutes July 14, 2014 140261 Stop Sign Request, Intersection of Garfield and LeMoyne A resident request to install a stop sign. (DISTRICT #4) Lew reviewed the request. Cation asked what type of advanced warning signage staff would install. Lew replied that he would install a T-intersection diagram sign be installed before the hill so drivers coming over the hill know they will have to turn. A motion was made by Gary Cation, seconded by John Mullins, that this Request be denied, but that staff pursue installing advanced warning signage. The motion passed by an unanimous vote. 140262 Washington Blvd. and Fairfield Ave. Stop Sign Installation Recommendation of the Transportation and Safety Committee to change the two-way Stop sign installation to an all-way Stop sign installation at Washington Boulevard and Fairfield Avenue and to update the Village ordinance at the above intersection. (DISTRICT #5) Lew reviewed the request. Corso pointed out that drivers already have to stop at Grace and Edgewood, and that the Cross Traffic Does Not Stop sign is pretty clear. It just doesn't seem like it would warrant a 4-way stop. A motion was made by Jennifer Perkins, seconded by Gary Cation, that this Request be recommend to the Board of Trustees for Approval. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 4- Bob Corbino, Jennifer Perkins, Gary Cation, and John Mullins Nay: 1- Michael Corso Absent: 3- John Larkin Jr., John Schwarz, and Jerry Shaefer 140263 Westmore-Meyers Speed Study A request for a speed limit reduction from 30 mph to 25 mph. (DISTRICT #6) Lew reviewed the request. Cation asked if they think people will slow down to 30 if they lower it? Lew answered that that's the general perception, but that is not how you determine speed limits. Foltyniewicz commented that with the width of the road, etc, 30 to 35 seems reasonable. A motion was made by Michael Corso, seconded by Gary Cation, that this Request be denied . The motion passed by an unanimous vote. 7.0 Other Business Mullins mentioned that the northbound Finley at Roosevelt left turn lane gets extremely backed up during evening rush hour. Recommendation from the Public Works Committee to adopt the Complete Streets Policy. 9.0 Adjournment A motion was made by Gary Cation, seconded by Jennifer Perkins, to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 p.m. The motion carried unanimously.
