A quorum was established. Tim Mulloy introduced the discussion topic regarding future plans of women’s professional soccer, youth soccer, and a new training and practice facility for the community. James O’Connor discussed the new professional women's team, the proposed training facility, and starting a new academy. Committee Member Peden and James O’Connor discussed the layout of the proposed outdoor soccer fields at Champions Park shown in the handout (see attached). Vice Chair Mulvihill, James O’Connor, and Tim Mulloy discussed where the men's team would practice, continuing to use Thurman Hutchins Park, and past flooding issues in the surrounding area. Committee Member Peden, James O’Connor, and Tim Mulloy discussed availability to youth teams, management of the facility's use, if there was a potential complex on Seatonville Road, Louisville City hosting youth events, and funding sources for the facility. Committee Member Coan and Tim Mulloy reviewed the exact areas of Champions Park that would be leased for the facility, if any amenities in the park would be displaced, and if any trees would be removed. Council Member Hollander and Tim Mulloy conferred about building structures on a former landfill site considering there was concern the landfill cap had been breached from previous events on the site, state permitting approvals, and the continued use of the other side of Champions Park as soccer fields. Committee Member Parker, James O’Connor, and Tim Mulloy clarified the facility's purpose as a practice facility, the current location of the men's team's practice facility, concerns about flooding, and the fee structure for using the facility. Committee Member Fox and Tim Mulloy discussed the plan for parking at the facility. Council Member Hollander discussed a potential redesign of River Road to eliminate flooding issues in the future. Chair Person Fowler, John Neace, and James O’Connor discussed a handout (see attached) showing the Sun Valley Golf Course area and the potential for a soccer complex to be built on site, the attempt to keep local talent in Louisville, and affiliating youth clubs with Louisville City. Committee Member Triplett, James O’Connor, and Tim Mulloy discussed the choice of Champions Park for the facility and the security of the facility. Chair Person Fowler, Tim Mulloy, John Neace, and James O’Connor discussed the intent of the coordination of youth sports complexes to be centered along the Gene Snyder Freeway for ease of access by youth tournament participants.
