Land Acknowledgement: “We acknowledge that the City of Lynnwood is located on the traditional lands of the Snohomish Tribe and the confederation of Tulalip Tribes and their families. For generations, these Indigenous communities have lived on this land, and we recognize, support, and advocate alongside them. We also acknowledge the forced removal of Indigenous communities from their Homelands as a result of the 1855 Treaty of Point Elliott. We understand that Land Acknowledgements are only the first step in our efforts to support Coast Salish tribes and educate non-Natives about their lived history. We strive to achieve this through building relationships with Indigenous communities, supporting Indigenous commerce, government-to-government partnerships, and lifting indigenous voices to create equity for all. Through these actions, we hope to not only pay respect to the past but also collaborate in creating a sustainable future, hand in hand with the first protectors of our shared environment”. BUSINESS ITEMS 70.1 Signal Boxes – update / future We discussed the status of the Snohomish Tribe box. Our aim was to provide images/text to give information and meaning, and we’ve run into this current conflict. We’ll likely have to take the box wrap down. One question is how we as a city go forward in terms of future art and relationship with the Snohomish Tribe/Tulalip Tribe. We discussed what theme and where our next box wrap with be. We don’t think neon signs will be of interest to the community. An idea will be eggs/chicken/poultry farms (20, 29, 42, 47). Other ideas are newspapers/radio stations, significant businesses, fairgrounds, rodeos, Edmonds College, Edmonds School District’s sports Wall of Honors, homesteaders (Hunters are near 13, 14). A farm theme will fit the proposed mural on the Senior Center wall, as well. 70.2 ESSB 5814 We discussed the possible ramifications of the bill. 70.3 Historic Buildings – standard response Staff generated 2 draft FAQs, one long and one short, for consideration. 70.4 Reaching ESD (social studies teachers, field trips, bus grant) C Ryan will get back with more information. 70.5 America250: Out of Many, One / Water Tower Exhibit Nothing has happened with the League. We want to do a water tower exhibit. 80. COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT • CL Hurst is attending his last meeting. • He will keep us updated on education from Tulalip tribe. 90.
