2. 21297 BLINK Proposal Review
Commissioners agreed that the Farm Art Detour is a high-quality regional event. They
discussed accessibility and inclusion issues related to the event's location outside of
Madison. They would like to see an official application from the group with a specific
Madison artist proposed.
The item was referred to the May 11, 2022 Madison Arts Commission meeting.
3. 21625 MAC Annual Grant Review
Commissioners reviewed their scoring of the annual grant applications, along with
recommended funding amounts. They discussed concerns about meaningful outreach to
underserved neighborhoods and residents, and they suggested changes to the scoring
rubric in the future, including revisiting whether or not new applicants should receive 5
bonus points. In discussion of Legacy grants, they emphasized that COVID-related backup
plans are important, and at this point in the pandemic, groups should be able to pivot and
produce something with grant funds.

MADISON ARTS COMMISSION Meeting Minutes - Approved April 12, 2022
Commissioners reviewed their scoring of the Artists At Work grant applications and
discussed how difficult it was to score applications based on a short narrative. They agreed
that the full body of MAC should review the applications rather than the Art Grants
Subcommittee.
A motion was made by S. Carter, seconded by Pjevach, to Approve the annual
art grant recommendations as proposed. The motion passed by voice
vote/other.
A motion was made by S. Carter, seconded by Reistad, to invite all eligible
Artists At Work grant applicants to apply for Phase 2 of the application process.
The motion passed by voice vote/other.
4. 43144 Poet Laureate Program & Initiatives
The Youth Poet Laureate application deadline will be extended as contract details are still
being worked out.
F. Carter suggested that the Youth Poet Laureate should receive a stipend as a token of
appreciation for their work. Commissioners supported funding an honorarium.
A motion was made by Senarighi, seconded by F. Carter, to Approve a $500
honorarium for the Youth Poet Laureate from the project grant budget. The
motion passed by voice vote/other.
5. 33162 Conference & Meetings Report
The item was referred to the May 11, 2022 Madison Arts Commission meeting.
6. 21279 MAC Administrative Reports
The Silver Lining Awards are on May 12, 2022, and commissioners were invited to volunteer
at the event. The Chair reminded commissioners of upcoming meetings dates regarding
the Thurber Artist in Residence. The Annie Stewart Fountain survey is currently on hold.
Karin Wolf and F. Carter are planning a panel discussion with Black women artists about
their experiences with inclusivity and a lack of support in the local arts community.
Commissioners noted that it was important to invite local art establishments and those who
have decision-making power in selecting artists for exhibitions and other opportunities. It
was suggested they partner with other groups to increase the reach of the event. There was
consensus among commissioners that they were supportive of hosting this event.
