PRESENTATIONS 5. 74508 Informational Only Presentation from the Madison Fire Department - Dane City of Madison Page 2 PUBLIC SAFETY REVIEW Meeting Minutes - Draft November 9, 2022 COMMITTEE County Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan Attachments: Link to access report.pdf Informational only presentation from the Madison Fire Department – Dane County Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan Alder Heck had requested an update on the City’s mitigation plan. Ed Ruckriegel, Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Director, gave an overview on the development of a plan consistent across municipalities/counties/states in accordance with specs prescribed by FEMA, including the importance for having a plan on file. NEW BUSINESS 6. 74076 Data Dashboard - Madison Police Chief Barnes Chief Barnes requested agenda item 6 be moved to the beginning of the meeting due to a schedule conflict. He introduced Lee Hunt, the City’s new Independent Police Monitor. Dr. Hunt has experience working with other departments. He will be focusing on data and analytics for operations while working with community partnerships in crime reduction activities. He will also help create a data dashboard for MPD, which will lead to a reduction in records requests. Chief Barnes gave a presentation on gun violence reduction updates, fielded questions from the group, and explained how data dashboards can work for MPD and the community. The group will attempt to make this a more productive exercise in the future. The subcommittee would like to meet in the new year and requested that a chair or staff arrange the meeting(s). Alder Heck will request Aisha Moe do this, and he will report back on status in December. Alder Benford expressed gratitude to the subcommittee for the work that was done and expressed disappointment that there isn’t an opportunity for more involvement with the community.
