feedback. The documentary featured older adults, senior outreach staff,
volunteers, caregivers, and community members, and is now publicly available on
social media. She also noted that more than 30 items were donated by local
businesses and older adults in the community for the silent auction. Refreshments
were partially donated by Angelos, in addition to homemade desserts prepared by
community older adults. Through the silent auction, more than $2,000 was raised

for the McFarland Area Outreach Endowment. SOS committee members
expressed positive feedback as well, highlighting how the documentary increased
public awareness of the services and support available within the community.
how the documentary helped to bring more awareness to the public of the services
offered. Discussed programs offered by Senior Outreach Services and some of the
challenges in providing services to seniors.
b. Discuss Operations and Space Needs for Senior Center, including areas of Health
and Wellness, Case Management, and Social and Recreational.
Katie shared community feedback from the “Imagine YOUR Senior Center”
board, highlighting priorities for a dementia-friendly, accessible senior center that
reduces social isolation and supports the needs of older adults in the McFarland
community.
a. Case Management: Katie reviewed services that provide information,
referrals, advocacy, and support for adults 60+ and caregivers to help them
remain safely at home. She highlighted communities served, eligibility,
growing service demand, and potential future staffing changes. Space
needs discussed included private/confidential offices, accessible meeting
space, storage for resources and loan closet items, office equipment, and a
flexible “soft” conference room for supportive services such as memory
screenings, caregiver support, and grief groups.
b. Social & Recreational: Discussion emphasized the importance of both
passive and active spaces that encourage social connection and
engagement. Needs identified included flexible areas for group activities
such as card clubs, coffee hours, and movies, as well as dedicated space
for instructor-led classes including fitness, arts, lectures, and outdoor
programs.
c. Health & Wellness: Katie highlighted the need for a wellness room to
support services such as blood pressure checks, acupuncture, hearing aid
cleaning, foot care, and massage. A Senior Committee member also
emphasized the value of preventative health and emotional wellness
programming to help older adults remain active in the community.
d. Key themes for all 3 areas: accessibility, spaces/equipment needs, and
staffing/coordination.
