3. Approval of Minutes from the previous meeting
Mayor Barrett, seconded by Captain Banks, moved approval of October 3, 2016
minutes. There were no objections.
4. Report on the December White House MBK Summit
Mr. Mahan and Mr. Crump attended the last My Brother's Keeper meet. There was a
call to all entities that had submitted their MBK plan and accepted it. This was an
opportunity to seat with the Great Lakes communities, made up of Minnesota, Illinois,

ADVISORY COUNCIL
Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Iowa; to look at their progress. One of the break out
sessions identified issues that are common among all cities, one of them being youth
engagement, as to how youth men are being recruited to being involved in the
various priority areas; and getting influences involved to pull these young men into
training and outreached efforts. Mr. Mahan also said that there is a need to find local
celebrities and social media to celebrate what's being done through the MBK
initiatives.
MBK will be hosting a series of trainings geared on how to engage social enterprise
outreach efforts, getting the chronic influencers involved, police, sworn individuals to
convened with the philathropy groups in local regions.
5. Report on the MBK National phone call
Approximately 41 MBK cities participated on the call.
Purpose of tele-conference was to address MBK Municipal Leadership on
methods/processes toward building “Sustainable Infrastructures”.
Objectives: Local elected officials and senior staff from MBK cities will learn how peer
communities and a national expert are building internal and external infrastructures to
sustain MBK efforts beyond their administration (Milw. Info shared regarding
infrastructure, council legislation, budget support, Action Plan, MOU’s with Partners)
6. Update on Dignity training for Lead Organizations & City Employees
Dr. Irby conducted the Initial session on 11/2/16, at M.A.T.C. downtown campus.
Staff from Employ Milwaukee, M.A.T.C., Running Rebels, Legacy Redevelopment
Corporation, the Nonprofit Center, and the OVP were in attendance.
Future sessions of Dignity training for select city employees being planned for 2017.
7. Update on MBK Priorities: #2 (MATC) - #5 (OVP) - #9 (Non Profit Center) - #10
(Running Rebels)
a) Priority #2 – Accept, retain, and graduate boys and men of color from
post-secondary education or job training programs.
• (MATC launched its Men of Color program in January 2015
• Primary goal of increasing academic and career outcomes for men of color
• Men of color represent 22% of MATC’s student body
• To date Case Management to over 300 men
• Substantial improvement in course completion and retention documented
• Weekly growth sessions & health and wellness resources provided
• Collaboration with community organizations have increased
• Targeted academic programs at MATC have been identified along with goals for
increasing outcomes
• Mentoring, referral resources, and cultural competence assistance has been
provided
b) Priority #5 – Increase the capacities of boys and men of color to combat violence
and victimization. (OVP is the lead organization – Violence Prevention Planning
Launch – see website)
c) Priority #9 – Increase the representation and participation in decision-making
bodies and processes across all sector for boys and men of color. (Nonprofit Center
is the lead organization- Review proposal)

d) Priority #10 – Establish alternative community-based institutions to sustain males
of color and their achievement efforts. (Running Rebels is the lead organization –
Review Proposal)
8. Update on Work Plans for MBK Lead Organizations
Mr. williams distributed a Project Work Plan Template to all members, that agencies
are to report back to Mr. Williams.
9. Update on the Fatherhood Summit & Post Summit follow up event
The 2016 Fatherhood summit was held in October 7 & 8th, attended by 731
individuals.
101 vendors supported the event.
8 job seekers offered employment with Shifgig
Services provided included child support services saw 321 attendees, Driver's
License Recovery (WI Community services) completed intake forms and provided
advice to 123 attendees, Legal and Health services were also offered.
Potawatomi is interested in being a "Presenting Sponsor" for the 2017 MFI summit.
10. Update on Implicit Bias training
There were 2 sessions conducted with staff during August & October 2016 at Aurora
Family Services
also training at the Legal Aid Society back in December 2016. Mr. williams explained
that he is offering these training to the different community agencies as they see fit as
part of our way to indoctrinate throughout the community.

Zoning, Neighborhoods & Development, and/or Steering and Rules. Whether a simultaneous
meeting is occurring depends on whether the presence of one or more of the Common Council
member results in a quorum of the Common Council or any of the above committees, and, if
there is a quorum of another committee, whether any agenda items listed above involve matters
within that committee’s realm of authority. In the event that a simultaneous meeting is
occurring, no action other than information gathering will be taken at the simultaneous
meeting.

Street. Parking tickets must be validated in the first floor Information Booth in City Hall.
Persons engaged in lobbying as defined in s. 305-43-4 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances
are required to register with the City Clerk's Office License Division. Registered lobbyists
appearing before a Common Council committee are required to identify themselves as such.
