1. Roll call
Present: President Lyn Ranta, Vice-President Caroline Gomez-Tom, Julia
Means, Ruthie Burich-Weatherly, Bria Grant, LaNelle Ramey, Ericka Sinclair
(arrived at 5:32pm).
Excused: Wujie Zhang; Alderwoman Chantia Lewis
2. Approval of minutes from 10/8/19 meeting
Board member Grant moved approval, seconded by member
Burich-Weatherly, of the meeting minutes from October 8, 2019. There was no
objection.
3. Communication from the Commissioner re: department updates
Commissioner Kowalik provided an update on the department which included
the introduction of Deputy Commissioner Claire Evers and an update on filing
other vacant Deputy Commissioner positions. The Commissioner also discussed
the department's need to fill 56 vacancies throughout the department.
A motion was made by member Ramey and seconded by Vice-President
Gomez-Tom that this communication be recommended for placing on file.
There were no objections.
4. Communication from the budget office re: the Health Department’s 2020 budget
Molly King from the Budget and Management Division provided an overview of
the department's 2020 budget.
Commissioner Kowalik informed the board that the department recently
received a $700,000+ grant from NACCHO to expand the Milwaukee Overdose
Response Initiative.
A motion was made by member Ramey and seconded by member Sinclair that
this communication be recommended for placing on file. There were no
objections.
5. Communication from the Health Department's Environmental Health Branch re: the 2019 HUD
grant

Deputy Commissioner Claire Evers provided an overview of a new $5.6 million
dollar Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Lead Hazard Reduction grant
that the Health Department received. The grant is active through April 2023 and
will make 302 housing lead-safe.
A motion was made by Vice-President Gomez Tom and seconded by President
Ranta that this communication be recommended for placing on file. There
were no objections.
6. Resolution creating a lead advisory committee
Deputy Commissioner Claire Evers provided an overview of a Lead-Safe
Advisory Committee proposal. Board members made changes to the advisory
committee membership and reporting frequency. Board members also
provided feedback to inform the implementation of the Lead-Safe Advisory
Committee.
A motion was made by member Grant and seconded by member Ramey that
this communication be recommended for placing on file, with the
understanding that additional details about the Lead-Safe Advisory Committee
would be discussed at the next meeting. There were no objections.
7. Adjournment
A motion was made by Vice-President Gomez-Tom, seconded by Member
Ramey to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 7:21pm.
