1. Call to Order
Board member President Caroline Gomez-Tom called the meeting to order at 5:32 pm.
2. Roll Call

3. Approval of September 1, 2022 Board meeting minutes
Board member Vice Chair Ruthie Burich-Weatherly motioned to approve, Board member Bria Grant
seconded, the motion passed with all in favor and none opposed.
4. The Honorable Cavalier Johnson, Mayor of Milwaukee
a. Board of Health correspondence
b. Board of Health vacancies
Mayor Johnson discussed the process and logic behind the appointment of the current OVP Director,
Ashanti Hamilton.
Mayor Johnson reported his office has been reviewing several candidates to fill the current Board of
Health vacancy.
5. Introduction & Welcome of Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa
This item will be held for next meeting scheduled Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 5:30 pm.
6. Communication from MHD Commissioner, Kirsten Johnson
a. Presentation
b. Questions
Commissioner Johnson presented a COVID-19 update including current case burden, vaccinations,
CDC updates, and mask guidance.
Commissioner Johnson also presented a Monkeypox update, including city of Milwaukee cases,
symptoms, transmission, and treatment.
211824 Communication relating to those documents submitted to the Board of
Health for its meetings in 2022.
7. DHS 140 Certification
a. Presentation
Chris Culotta and Angela Nimsgern, both from the Department of Health Services, Division of Public
Health, Green Bay/Northeast Region, Office of Policy and Practice Alignment reported that the City
of Milwaukee Health Department completed the 140 certification review process and now meets all
requirements to be a Level 3 Health Department with no remaining deficiencies.
8. Strategic Plan update, Health Strategy Director, Langston Verdin

Director Verdin presented a Strategic Plan update including a list of team members, the planning
process, the anti-racism approach, data collection process, the timeline of the plan, implementation,
strategic goals and phases.
9. Assessment of Local Public Health System (CHIP), Public Health Strategist, Anneke Mohr
Public Health Strategist Mohr presented a CHIP update, including a brief overview, future plans, a
summary of local public health system assessment, top proprieties, and timelines and next steps.
10. Discussion of Board of Health Bi-Monthly meeting schedule
This item will be held for next meeting scheduled Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 5:30 pm.

11. Home Environmental Health (Lead Program), MHD Deputy Commissioner, Tyler Weber
a. Questions
Deputy Commissioner Weber presented a lead update as it relates to ARPA including the timeline,
progress, related data, and MHD intervention.
12. Strategic Planning, MHD Deputy Commissioner, Bailey Murph
a. Questions
Deputy Commissioner Murph reported there are no further updates at this time.
13. MHD branch collaboration updates, Board of Health Members
a. Board presentation & discussion
This item will be held for next meeting scheduled Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 5:30 pm.
14. Office of Violence Prevention (OVP), Director Ashanti Hamilton
Director Hamilton reported that OVP is currently in the process of filling three positions and will work
on filling other vacancies in the near future.
Director Hamilton also reported that OVP is currently working on recommendations and suggestions
relating to building partnerships with community faith-based organizations that the Board presented
during the September 2022 Board of Health meeting.

Board member Vice Chair Ruthie Burich-Weatherly motioned to adjourn, Board member Julia
Means seconded and motion passed, with all in favor, the meeting was adjourned at 7:17 pm.

simultaneously constitute a meeting of the Common Council or any of the following committees: Community and Economic
Development, Finance and Personnel, Judiciary and Legislation, Licenses, Public Safety and Health, Public Works, Zoning,
Neighborhoods & Development, and/or Steering and Rules. Whether a simultaneous meeting is occurring depends on whether
the presence of one or more of the Common Council member results in a quorum of the Common Council or any of the above
committees, and, if there is a quorum of another committee, whether any agenda items listed above involve matters within that
committee’s realm of authority. In the event that a simultaneous meeting is occurring, no action other than information gathering
