Sheila Adams Gardner, daughter of the honoree, said Mr. Cleotha Adams is the owner
and founder of Adams Auto Body and is the oldest African American auto body shop
in Milwaukee. Mr. Adams's tutelage has led to other individuals opening their own
auto shops. Cleotha is a strong member of the Christian community and moved to
Milwaukee and began his career at American Motors. He opened Adams Body Shop in
June 1966. He has received many honors and awards over the years. Ms. Devon
Duke, his other daughter, mentioned her father has uplifted the lives of many
individuals and has employed individuals whom others may not have employed. The
city noted there will be a total of four signs and can make an honorary sign in his shop.
Move to grant, by Mr. Harpole, seconded by Mr. Benson. There were no objections.
2. 201557 Substitute resolution assigning the honorary street name "Bishop William

Ms. Ruth Simpson, Bishop Roger's granddaughter, said he served faithfully for 47
years before his death and he did a live one-hour service for a number of years. He
has contributed greatly to the city of Milwaukee through his service in the inner city
through his humanitarian efforts. Bishop Howard Gracie said it has been a
tremendous blessing to support this application and many sons and daughters in both
the U.S. and abroad got their start in Bethlehem Temple Church. Pastor Charisse
Brown spoke to the Bishop's support and encouragement of youth in his congregation
and of his support for her personally. He let her speak to the congregation at age of
18, even during a prestigious congregation meeting; he paid attention to his sheep. Dr.
Tony Rogers is the daughter of the Bishop and she filed the application; she trains and
teaches others and has written two books due to what he has instilled in her. Marquis
Young, the current pastor, also present.
Move to grant, by Mr. Benson, seconded by Mr. Harpole. There were no objections.
3. Discussion and possible vote on the future of Citizen Advisory Committee.
Mr. Gurda mentioned about the new Council ordinance relating to official street
namings directly by Council members. Mr. O'Neill asked if the Council committee had
the same kind of interaction with the public as this body does, as he sees that serves
a valuable function. Mr. Benson noted that this body acts under the purview of the
Council. Mr. O'Neill likes the purpose this body serves and he is perfectly happy
continuing to serve, as is Ms. Fix. Mr. Baer also supported continuing, as did Mr.
Benson. The body will continue as it has been.
Meeting adjourned: 9:46 A.M.
