Sponsors: THE CHAIR Toussaint Harris on the application. Sister Clara is his grandmother who bought houses for foster children, she has helped thousands of people , beautified the area and was good friends with other important Milwaukee people of color. She put children first and gave them hope. She picked up trash and spread the love, resulting in productive citizens and even today, the block where she lived is still clean. She is known throughout Milwaukee as "Mother Atwater" and she put in decades of work in the neighborhood. Her doors were always open to the youth and to the elders; she never discriminated. She passed on August 2nd. Dewayne Rathell - honoree is his mother-in-law. Yance Marti - the application is in order. Mr. O'Neill moved, seconded by Mr. Benson for approval. Sponsors: THE CHAIR Derrick Martin - he is the son of the honoree, who passed away on July 21st. He was a business owner in the city over 50 years ago and at one time owned 6 stores employing over 600 people. He was very active in the community, including with the Urban League. Gregory Martin - his father was one of the original founding members of the North and King Business Improvement District. 4th and North was the location of one of his first stores in 1965. Another store was on 5th and North that he ran for over 30 years and a department store across the street. He redeveloped that to bring the Milwaukee state office into the area and later sold a building to the Urban League to give them a permanent building in the neighborhood. "Lena's" is named after his mother. The last store was sold in 2018. Yance Marti - the application is complete. Mr. Benson moved for approval, seconded by Ms. Fix. There were no objections. Parking tickets must be validated in the first floor Information Booth in City Hall. Persons engaged in lobbying as defined in s. 305-43-4 of the Milwaukee Code are required to register with the City Clerk's License Division.
