Information  Marketing and outreach plans  Events update Evans gave a presentation addressing issues of equity in our marketing and outreach City of Milwaukee Page 1 CITY-COUNTY TASK FORCE ON Meeting Minutes May 17, 2021 CLIMATE AND ECONOMIC EQUITY plans. The discussion that followed raised these concerns and recommendations: - Personal responsibility vs corporate responsibility. - Address role of systemic racism in distribution of impacts of climate change. - Demonstrate immediate benefits as well as long-term benefits. - Provide clear, easy to understand, do-able call to action. - Rely on trusted messengers. Shambarger indicated that there is funding for paid media, which the Media Team will prepare. Shambarger also mentioned that most of the Work Groups may take a break in July. Evans will work with Work Group Chairs to discuss their availability to speak at summer events. ▪ An events update was folded into the presentation 3. Planning and assignments (either teams or group as a whole)  Soft Launch  Kick-off Event Soft Launch - Note: Work groups are encouraged to wrap up their “big ideas” by kickoff event on June 24. - Frank will set up Zoom Waiting Room and notify Kanthi - Moore will to be MC - Mabon will be Zoom tech. - Kanthi and McAlister will be chat moderators. - Evans will prepare talking points for this by-invitation event targeting underserved communities. Kanthi reviewed the outreach timeline, which was discussed with the Outreach Chairs on Friday - Keleske offered to check if city has Spanish translator on retainer. ▪ Kick-off Event - Mandela Barnes has been tentatively scheduled as the keynote speaker. Berkebile or Sharon Adams will be invited as closing speaker. - The event will be interactive, with audience polling. McAlister has an idea for the waiting room which Evans will pursue. - Shambarger is checking with Mayor and/or Council Member to give welcome. We are keeping introductions short. - Media releases will be sent after speakers are confirmed. 4. Teams Report back:  Key decisions, next steps no break-out room meetings today 5. Action Items  Homework:  Next regular meeting: to be determined (conflicts with Memorial Day) In the event that Common Council members who are not members of this committee attend this meeting, this meeting may also simultaneously constitute a meeting of the Common Council or any of the following committees: Community and Economic Development, Finance and Personnel, Judiciary and Legislation, Licenses, Public Safety and Health, Public Works, Zoning, Neighborhoods & Development, and/or Steering and Rules. Whether a simultaneous meeting is occurring depends on whether the presence of one or more of the Common Council member results in a quorum of the Common Council or any of the above committees, and, if there is a quorum of another committee, whether any agenda items listed above involve matters within that committee’s realm of authority. In the event that a simultaneous meeting is occurring, no action other than information gathering will be taken at the simultaneous meeting. Upon reasonable notice, efforts will be made to accommodate the needs of persons with disabilities through sign language interpreters or auxiliary aids. Limited parking for persons attending meetings in City Hall is available at reduced rates (5 hour limit) at the Milwaukee Center on the southwest corner of East Kilbourn and North Water Street. Parking tickets must be validated in the first floor Information Booth in City Hall. Persons engaged in lobbying as defined in s. 305-43-4 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances are required to register with the City Clerk's Office License Division.
