FPC21077 Communication relating to the Chief of Police Selection Process Nelson Soler stated that, given that the possibility of litigation involving Alfonso Morales’s claims against the City persists, the process for selecting a permanent Chief of Police remains suspended. Anna Wilson offered a friendly amendment to defer this item to the April 15, 2021 meeting. Fred Crouther accepted the friendly amendment. The amended motion was seconded by Anna Wilson. This motion PREVAILED by the following vote: Aye: 6- Avalos, McKenzie, Cocroft, Crouther, Soler, and Wilson No: 0 Motion to Adjourn Commissioner Wilson moved approval to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Commissioner Avalos. All in favor. None opposed. The motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 7:08 p.m. The Board may receive a motion to convene in closed session in City Hall, room 301-B, 200 East Wells Street, on the promotion or probation extension request in the Police Department, or the amendment to the Standard Operating Procedure 460-Use of Force, pursuant to Section 19.85(1) (b), Wis. Stat. for the purpose of considering information pertaining to the dismissal, demotion, licensing or discipline of any public employee, pursuant to Section 19.85 (1)(c) Wis. Stats. to consider employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over whom the Board has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility, pursuant to Section 19.85 (1)(f) Wis. Stats. to consider financial, medical, social or personal histories of specific candidates for employment which, if discussed in public, would be likely to have a substantial adverse effect upon the reputation of any person referred to in such histories, or pursuant to Section 19.85 (1) (g) Wis. Stats. to confer with a representative of the City Attorney's Office who will render oral or written advice concerning strategy to be adopted by the Board with respect to litigation in which it is or is likely to become involved. The Board may then reconvene in open session concerning any such item following the closed session. Upon reasonable notice, efforts will be made to accommodate the needs of persons with disabilities through sign language interpreters or auxiliary aids.
