Sponsors: THE CHAIR 12 BURDUE, Louise A Class B Tavern, Food Dealer, and Public Entertainment Premises License Renewal Applications for "OLLIE'S" at 100 W MAPLE St. (Expired 11/29/2019) The applicant stated no neighbors ever came to talk to her and she wishes they would have. She added she will attend the landlord tenant training offered by the Department of Neighborhood Services. Appearing with the applicant: Melinda Burdue 100 W Maple St stated they got rid of the people who were living in the apartment, but her sister was allowing people to stay there. She added that her sister has been in rehab since the end of November. She added that no neighbors ever came to talk to her about issues and there aren't a lot of violent crazy people at the bar. She stated that all of the patrons are older people. She added that there were inspectors on the day they got shut down and there are plans to address the Department of Neighborhood Services orders. She stated that they don't go around harassing neighbors and she doesn't understand why neighbors are afraid of them. Evan Wendt 2457 S 13th St read a statement prepared by the applicant. Ald. Coggs moved to enter in to the record as exhibit #1 the prepared statement from the applicant. (Prevailed 5-0) Individual also present: Ald. Perez asked if there had been any further issues with neighbors. He stated there should be a mitigation plan filed with MPD and he would like to know what the plan is to address the issues at the premises. He added that there are currently orders from the Department of Neighborhood Services to fix issues in the lower unit. He added that neighbors have felt relief since the premises has been closed. Ald. Kovac stated he is not confident that what the applicant is saying is the truth, but there is no contradictory testimony. Dodd stated if businesses are not a good partner with the community it makes it challenging to keep them open without accountability. She added that she doesn't felt the applicant is accountable for the issues that have occurred. Ald. Dodd moved nonrenewal based on aldermanic and applicant testimony and the police report. She stated that her staff has been more attentive and aware of issues, and they're stopping people before they get in the premises. Ald. Lewis stated there are back to back incidents at the premises and she wants to know what changed to cause the incidents. She added that every Friday they have a promoter and she would like them to stop because it is outside their plan of operation. Ald. Will Stoyer 1846 N Vel R Phillips Ave stated the area needs investment and he is against the addition of a DJ. Michael Morgan 1846 N Vel R Phillips Ave stated there are issues with noise and trash. Individual present in support: Tim Satran 4109 N Stowell Ave, Shorewood, WI stated he is the finacial advisor to the applicants and they run good businesses. He added the premises is a good addition to the neighborhood. Shantell McKenzie 738 N 18th St stated she handles the marketing of the premises and she added that a DJ has more control over noise than a jukebox. Ald.
