Meeting called to order at 4:24 p.m.
1. Roll Call
Mr. DeLind presided as chair absent Ald. Murphy.

2. Review and Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes
Meeting minutes from March 10, 2015 were approved without objection. Ald. Murphy
and Ms. Kosarzycki excused. Ald. Kovac, Ms. Garcia, and Ms. Cubias were absent.
3. Public Art Subcommittee Report
New Work Fund
Ms. Morris said that the fund is still open due to receipt of many applications. The
subcommittee was presented with a temporary event project called “Temporary
Resurfacing” at its meeting today requesting about $8000 from the board. The event
drew 500 attendees last year. Big expense is equipment. The subcommittee
recommends awarding the project $2500 from the fund to cover artist honorarium.

There will be 30 artists involved.
Ms. Morris moved approval, seconded by Mr. Flores, to award $2500 from the New
Work Fund to the Temporary Resurfacing Project to cover artist honorarium. There
were no objections. Ald. Murphy and Ms. Kosarzycki excused. Ald. Kovac, Ms.
Garcia, and Ms. Cubias were absent.
Ms. Morris added that the subcommittee received a new proposal from the
Riverworks Center regarding a project by local artists Tyanna Buieon the Beer Line
Trail. The project will likely get some funding from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation
and the City’s Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative. The proposal will be formally
presented to the subcommittee at its next meeting.
4. Grants Update
Ms. Witte gave an update. The Arts Board received 45 eligible proposals for grants
by the March 9, 2015 deadline. There will be an eight member grant review panel
consisting of three board members and five community members with varying art
form expertise. Panel members received grant materials at an orientation on April 7,
2015. The panel will review and score applications at an all-day session open to the
public on May 6, 2015 on the first floor of the Ziedler Municipal Building, 841 N.
Broadway. Mr. DeLind will be the moderator. Panel recommendations will be
forwarded to the board at its next meeting on May 12, 2015. The annual Grant
Awards Celebration and Friends of the Arts Awards will occur following the board’s
regular meeting of June 9, 2015 in the City Hall Rotunda.
5. Friends of the Art Vote
Ald. Murphy joined the board at 4:30 p.m. Ald. Murphy presided as chair.
Ms. Balistreri nominated Lori Bauman and Steve VandeZande to recognize them for
their commitment, contribution, and assistance to the arts community, students, local
artists, and local and national artist work exhibits. She’s worked with both individuals
during her teaching tenure at the Milwaukee High School of Arts and through the
Milwaukee Art Museum. Both persons are co-founders of Redline.
There were no other nominations.
Ms. Balistreri moved approval, seconded by Mr. DeLind, to award the Friends of the
Arts Vote to Lori Bauman and Steve VandeZande, as nominated. There were no
objections. Ms. Kosarzycki excused. Ald. Kovac, Ms. Garcia, and Ms. Cubias were
absent.
Ald. Murphy said that the next meeting of the board will take place at an upper level
space of the Marcus Performing Arts Center. He will work with the center and Ms.
Witte on acquiring the space. Furthermore, future meetings can occur there if so
desired by the board.
Ald. Murphy announced that he is assisting in raising funds for the MKE Plays
program. The goal of the program is to renovate twelve central city playgrounds in
the City. $300,000 has been awarded from the Zilber Foundation and another grant
was received from the Lake Michigan Foundation. Goal is to raise $1 million in the
next two months and to complete renovation within three years. Sites with the worst
condition were picked by the City’s Commissioner of the Department of Public Works.

The community will be involved with design. There will be several in-kind
contributions from contractors. Members are asked to consider an art component at
these playgrounds.
