sponsored by the Congressional Institute every spring encouraging high school
students to submit artwork to be judged locally. Awardees will be recognized at
district and national levels. Locally in Congresswoman Gwen Moore’s district, 11
high schools participated with 88 students and 91 pieces of a wide range of artwork.
The top winning artists in the congresswoman’s district will get their artwork displayed
at the US Capitol for one year and receive a trip there.

atrium.
8. New Business
Ald. Murphy gave an overview on an essay contest that he created. It is a local 200
words or less essay competition for local middle and high school students in the
south and north side of the City who have been afflicted by terrible violence.
Students should write about what they can do to provide a solution to stop violent
crime in the City. The intent is to focus on at-risk children, shift their attitudes,
encourage dialogue, and implement their suggestions within the next year.
Awardees will be rewarded with tickets and/or recognition from the Milwaukee Bucks,
Milwaukee Brewers, Summer Fest, Milwaukee County Zoo, Discovery World, and
Clear Channel. Members are to help share this information to those in their
community. The deadline is May 21, 2015 but may possibly be extended.
Meeting adjourned at 4:35 p.m.
