Roll Call The meeting convened at 4:09 PM Individual also present: Sally Witte, DCD Present 12 - DeLind, McSweeney, Morris, Flores, Fraker, Kosarzycki, Murphy, Kovac, Klose, Layden, Garcia and Phillips Absent 2 - Cubias and Hill Excused 2 - Murphy and Kingsbury 2. Review and Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes Mr. Flores moved approval of the minutes, seconded by Ms. Morris. There were no objections. 3. Public Art Subcommittee Report Ms. Morris stated the Subcommittee met twice last month to review applications and there are projects that are ready to be funded, some of them are from the Art & Civic Engagement process. Ms. Morris moved to fund Riverworks at $5,000 for artist fees, The New State at $5,000 for artist fees, and Arts Wisconsin with Mary Louise Schumacher and Kevin Miyazaki at $5,300, seconded by Ms. McSweeney. There were no objections 4. Sustaining Grant Program Report Ms. Witte stated the subcommittee met to review applications for the sustaining grants for operating costs during the pandemic times. She added that the Subcommittee City of Milwaukee Page 1 MILWAUKEE ARTS BOARD Meeting Minutes June 9, 2020 voted to fund all 44 organizations at $6,200 each. Ms. Morris stated that these applications really give a deeper look in to how these organizations are running and the information collected should be shared. Mr. DeLind moved to fund the following organizations at $6,200 each: Artists Working in Education, Arts at Large, Artworks for Milwaukee, Betty Brinn Children's Museum, Black Arts Milwaukee, DanceCircus, Danceworks, Early Music Now, ExFabula, First Stage, Florentine Opera, Girls Rock Milwaukee, Historic Milwaukee, Jewish Museum Milwaukee, Latino Arts, Marquette University Haggerty Museum, Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Artists Resource Network, Milwaukee Ballet, Milwaukee Chamber Theater, Milwaukee Children's Choir, Milwaukee Film, Milwaukee Opera Theater, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Youth Theatre, Next Act Theatre, Optimist Theatre, Piano Arts, Present Music, Quasimondo Physical Theater, Radio Milwaukee, Renaissance Theaterworks, Riverwest Artists Association, Ruach, Inc., Signature Dance, Skylight Music Theater Corp., String Academy of Wisconsin, TBEY Arts Center, Inc., Walker's Point Center for the Arts, Wild Space Inc., Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and Woodland Pattern, seconded by Ms. Klose. There were no objections, but the following members abstained from voting on specific organizations: Ald. Kovac abstained from Historic Milwaukee, Ms. Klose abstained from Jewish Museum Milwaukee; Ms. Garcia abstained from Walker's Point Center for the Arts; Ms. Layden abstained from Marquette University Haggerty Museum, Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Film, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra; and Mr. Flores abstained from First Stage. 5. Old Business Ms. Witte asked about the voting for the annual Artist of the Year and Friends of the Arts awards. She stated voting will occur at the July meeting. 6. Whether a simultaneous meeting is occurring depends on whether the presence of one or more of the Common Council member results in a quorum of the Common Council or any of the above committees, and, if there is a quorum of another committee, whether any agenda items listed above involve matters within that committee’s realm of authority. Persons engaged in lobbying as defined in s. 305-43-4 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances are required to register with the City Clerk's Office License Division.
