Coggs, Ms. Morris, Mr. Flores, Ms. Heading, Ms. Klose, Ms. Kosarzycki, Ms. McSweeney, Mr. Murphy, Mr. Phillips and Mr. Tovar Members Excused: Ms. Layden, Mr. DeLind, Mr. Fraker, Ms. Hill, Ms. Souffrant and Ms. Garcia Ms. Morris moved to move up the election item of the agenda to elect Ald. Coggs as the chair of the committee, seconded by Ms. Phillips. There were no objections. Ald. Coggs said that the she appreciates the work of the board that she has been following up for the past 14 years. Ald. Coggs asked Ms. Morris if she wanted to continue as a vice chair. Ms. Morris said that she wants to continue as a vice chair. Review and Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes Ms. Morris moved to approve the minutes from May 10, 2022. There were no objections. Public Art Subcommittee Report Ms. Morris said that they have received funding from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and that they will be launching an RFP the for the artist (PAIR) and a RQ for the artist liaison on July 18th with a deadline of August 22nd and that they hope to be choosing these people shortly thereafter. Ms. Morris said that they also had Ms. MacDonald and Ms. Moore at the meeting to talk about the use of the rotunda at City Hall for art exhibitions. Grants Update Ms. Svetic said that this is a report as well and that Ms. Grote has been receiving the City of Milwaukee Page 1 MILWAUKEE ARTS BOARD Meeting Minutes July 12, 2022 2021 sustaining grants final reports and that the sustaining grant agreements for the 2022 year have been sent out. She added that that the first payment is currently being processed to those that have met with the 2021 final report and returned the grant agreement. Ms. Grote said that only 4 final reports are outstanding. New Business a. Chair and Viche Chair roles The item was moved up to the Roll Call section. b. MAB bylaws drafting Chris Hillard from the LRB office was present and Ms. Svetic said that all members should have received the drafted bylaws and the first suggested amendment. She acknowledged that she has received more suggestions after sending the first e-mail and that the purpose was to assemble a document that reflects the current functioning and what the code of ordinances tasks them which has been brought to the board to make suggestions, edits and that a vote wont happen today. Mr. Hillard said that the idea is to have more clarity on how the board functions and the roll of DCD staff if there is ever an issue, it is good to have a document to refer to. Ms. Morris and Mr. Flores shared some suggestions that will be shared with Mr. Hillard to be put in the amendment. Ms. Klose said that she is willing to help with anything from the marketing and design point of view. Ms. Svetic said that Ms. Souffrant shared some notes as well and that those will be reviewed/included as well. c. Cherry Street Bascule Bridge - 100 W Cheery St Jonathan Thomas, Yoon Moon Chun, Michael Delemont and Bill Schilling from DPW were present and shared a presentation. Old Business No old business were reported. Announcements Ms. Morris said that there are 2 big home refugee events: this Saturday is Music Day and in two weeks will be Dance Day. Added that Reggie Wilson will be performing on August 13th for free. Ms. Klose said that there is some grant money available at joyengine.org/communitychallenge Ald. Coggs said that on August 13th, during the Bronzeville Week, there will be art walk and that visual and performing arts will be featured.
