Roll Call The meeting convened at 3:03 PM Individual also present: Sally Witte, DCD Present 5 - McSweeney, Morris, Murphy, Klose and Layden 2. Review and Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes Ms. Layden moved approval, seconded by Ms. McSweeney. There were no objections. 3. New Work Fund Application Review & Presentations: - Black Cat Alley Ms. Morris stated Black Cat Alley will not available to present today and will ask them to come to the next meeting. - Designing Equity: Lexicon Dr. Kathrine Wilson of Greater Together and the Zeidler Center explained the Lexicon project. She stated the in kind match from Greater Together and MKE-LAX is already in place. Monica Miller, Artist, stated they're looking into securing funding from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation in September and the Wisconsin Arts Board in June or July. Fonde Bridges, Creative Writer, stated positive vocabulary is sometimes unavailable to kids and he wants to produce something new by creating a new lexicon. Ms. Morris moved to hold for further information. There were no objections. - Peacemaking at Tiefenthaler Park Muneer Bahauddeen, Artist, stated he is collaboration with Tiefenthaler Park to make peace posts with art generated from the community. He asks participants to write what they want for themselves and their community and insets that into the posts. This project is for 5 posts with 10 ceramic tiles per post. The project would take place on June 16th with installation on July 14th. Rodney Sanchez, Lake Valley Camp stated the work with youth from the 53205/08 zipcodes that are part of Midtown. Currently they serve 575 kids from 1st grade through high school seniors. He added Julily Kohler, Ald. Stamper, and Supervisor Omokunde are involved in the project as well. Ms. Morris moved to fund the project at $5,000, seconded by Ms. Layden. New Business - State Office Building Mosaics Ms. Morris stated this mural was created by a woman artist and is still alive. She suggested a warning system for when public art is in danger of being destroyed. Ms. Witte stated many emails were received from the public wanting to save the mural. 6. Announcements In the event that Common Council members who are not members of this committee attend this meeting, this meeting may also simultaneously constitute a meeting of the Common Council or any of the following committees: Community and Economic Development, Finance and Personnel, Judiciary and Legislation, Licenses, Public Safety, Public Works, Zoning, Neighborhoods & Development, and/or Steering and Rules. Whether a simultaneous meeting is occurring depends on whether the presence of one or more of the Common Council member results in a quorum of the Common Council or any of the above committees, and, if there is a quorum of another committee, whether any agenda items listed above involve matters within that committee’s realm of authority. Persons engaged in lobbying as defined in s. 305-43-4 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances are required to register with the City Clerk's Office License Division.
