Members excused: Murphy Also present: Ms. Svetic 2 Review and Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes Ms. Klose moved to approve the minutes. Ms. Layden seconded. There were no objections. Mc Sweeney abstained since she was not present. 3 New Work Fund a. Discuss PAIR department interest Ms. Morris said that there was a conversation on the last meeting about the “Reckless Driving”. Ms. Svetic wanted to point out that the Workforce's Development option was also referring to the reckless driving and that Bernadette did a sort of refine of the statement of interest and that what Ms. Svetic sent, reflects that change which she proceeded to read. Ms. Morris said that she hopes to come with the recommendations to the full board as options 1 and 2. Ms. Klose said that she leans more towards the reckless driving because of what is happening in the city and that residents are fed up with that and that it is more visible and that the Workforce's Development piece as option two. Ms. Layden said that her option one is the reckless driving and the one from the Workforce's Development as option two and suggested to tell them to bring some funding to the table and that from the marketing stand point, the visibility factor is important right now to publicize this program. Ms. McSweeney said that both programs are high profile and both programs should be number one and that she will go for option 1 and 2 as the rest as well. Ms. Morris said that they can make a good case to fund both projects in a separate quarter and that she will be happy to find a second artist. Ms. Morris asked if the members feel comfortable to bring the suggestions to the next meeting as discussed. The members agreed. City of Milwaukee Page 1 MILWAUKEE ARTS BOARD PUBLIC Meeting Minutes April 12, 2022 ART SUBCOMMITTEE 4 Conservation Fund Ms. Morris said that regarding the Conservation Fund, she had a chance to talk to Diane Buck (Villa Terrace) and that she was very understating of the accessibility part of the rejection and that they will pursue other ideas. Ms. Morris said that a new application came in and that it will be considered for the next meeting which seems to be about some murals along the beer line trail. Ms. Layden mentioned to keep an eye on an application of a sculpture at Marquette University (being moved). Ms. Klose said that there is actually a booklet of the green sidewalk project on Brady St that was mentioned last time. 5 New Business Ms. Layden said that there is a downtown development plan and that she would like to see one the board members playing a roll or at least have the planning team to acknowledge the Arts Board. Also suggested to bring this item to the table to be discussed by the board. Ms. Svetic said that there is no one right now from the Arts Board sitting at the Downtown bid but asked if someone is interested in connecting with members of the planning team. Ms. Morris said that it will make sense to reach out to ask if they need some participation from the Arts Board. Ms. Layden said that there are public meetings where residents are able to attend as a private citizens and that they are taking suggestions from the public in general and that it will be good for the Arts Board to have a little visibility in a project highly public like this one because the Arts Board have so low visibility in the community. Ms. Morris asked Ms. Svetic to find out some more information about the project. Ms. Layden shared the link on the chat https://www.milwaukeedowntown.com/do-business/connecting-mke-downtown-plan-204 0 Ms. Morris said that the other two pieces of new business are: The Vel R Phillips Task Force involved with the erection of the statue of Vel R. Phillips said that it is a larger project that has to do with setting down an endowment as well. Ms. Klose shared the link https://city.milwaukee.gov/giftshop on the chat and that she does not know if this program was ever promoted during the pandemic. Ms. Morris said that she talked to the developers of the new convention center because she has been approached by Bill Sebastian about moving the original artwork into the new building and that they are choosing a new art director and that it was clear that their interest is going in a different direction. 6 Old Business Ms. Morris said that they kind of mix new with old businesses.
