Call to Order @ 5:12 PM 2. Roll Call. Present 5 - Coggs, Phillips, Rozga, Coby and Bailey Excused 1 - Johnson 3. Review and approval of previous meeting minutes. Mr. Phillips, moved approval, seconded by Mr. Bailey. There were no objections 4. Review and approval of the 2022 nominations. Nominations for considerations were: Bridget Whitaker by Safe and Sound - Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc., Symphony Swan Marjorie Rucker by Milwaukee Business Council - Damia S Causey Jessica Butler by Megan Bruzan Raynetta Hill by Historic King Drive Business Improvement District - Cornelius McClendon Catrina Crane by Menomonee Valley Partners - Corey Zetts Elizabeth M. Coggs by King Advisory, Inc., - Vanessa Johnson City of Milwaukee Page 1 VEL R PHILLIPS TRAILBLAZER Meeting Minutes March 16, 2022 AWARD SELECTION COMMITTEE Mr. Phillips moved the 2022 Vel R. Phillips Trailblazer Award be given to Ms. Elizabeth M. Coggs. Ald. Coggs abstained Award will be presented at the Girls Day@ City Hall on March 22nd, 2022 luncheon. Ald. Coggs will be doing a press release on the 23rd to announced the winner. 5. Announcements & public comments. It was suggested that committee members review the application eligibility list and make any necessary updates to the language and to add possibly specific questions, to make the nominations strong points best highlighted. Efforts for the statue in the capital are still in discussion, as well as a fun raiser for an endowment to be given with the award. Department of Public Works is beginning the formal planning for the Vel R Phillips plaza. The Earn and LEarn application will be release March 28th. 6. Meeting adjourned at 5:50 PM Joanna Polanco Staff Assistant In the event that Common Council members who are not members of this committee attend this meeting, this meeting may also simultaneously constitute a meeting of the Common Council or any of the following committees: Community and Economic Development, Finance and Personnel, Judiciary and Legislation, Licenses, Public Safety and Health, Public Works, Zoning, Neighborhoods & Development, and/or Steering and Rules. Whether a simultaneous meeting is occurring depends on whether the presence of one or more of the Common Council member results in a quorum of the Common Council or any of the above committees, and, if there is a quorum of another committee, whether any agenda items listed above involve matters within that committee’s realm of authority. In the event that a simultaneous meeting is occurring, no action other than information gathering will be taken at the simultaneous meeting. Upon reasonable notice, efforts will be made to accommodate the needs of persons with disabilities through sign language interpreters or auxiliary aids.
