YOUTH COUNCIL
Wednesday, January 11, 2017 4:30 PM Room 303, City Hall
1. Call to Order
Meeting convened at 4:51pm
2. Roll Call
Present 8 - Haywood II, Hoeschen, Lofton, Gloria Gonzales, Brown, Gambrell-Toliver,
Devine Handy and Alcantara
Absent 2 - Hines and Truss
Excused 2 - Estremera-Maldonado and McDade
3. Visit by Ald. Chantia Lewis
Ald. Lewis, 9th District Representative and Ms. Vaynesia Kendrick (Newman) invited
the Youth Council to be particiapte and co-sponsor with the Common Council the
celebration for Black History month. Event is tentaively scheduled for February 24,
2017 starting at 2pm in City Hall Rotunda.
Members agreed to participate and contact Ald. Lewis with ideas for their
participation.
4. Milwaukee Police Department scenario training
Members Lofton, Dunn and Gambrell-Toliver attended the Milwaukee Police
Department scenario training back in December; they agreed that it was a positive
and educational learning experience, that helped them understand the challenges
police officers faced when doing their job; they sugegested for MPD to make these
trainings available to a bigger audience, if possible.
5. MYC 2017 Priorities
Based on a list of areas of interest created by members at a prior meeting, the
following topics/effort have been determine to be the 2017 youth council priorities:
1. Creation of panels within MPS schools to reduce public violence, segregation and
increase intergration.
2. create/implement a car theft #nofreeride and safe driving campaign
3. to repair/clean up public parks/tot lots with the cooperation of MKE plays, if
possible
4. cognitive behavioral therapy

6. Municipal ID
There was a group of youth council members who went to the License Division to
apply for a Milwaukee Municipal ID prior to the start of the meeting.
7. New Business
Member Lofton invited all council members to a fund raising event Girls In Action, Inc
will be hosting on Friday, January 28th from 5-7 pm at Cardinal Strich.

Street. Parking tickets must be validated in the first floor Information Booth in City Hall.
Persons engaged in lobbying as defined in s. 305-43-4 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances
are required to register with the City Clerk's Office License Division. Registered lobbyists
appearing before a Common Council committee are required to identify themselves as such.
