YOUTH COUNCIL
Wednesday, January 24, 2018 4:30 PM Room 303, City Hall
1. Call to Order at 4:44 PM
2. Roll Call
Present 9 - Hoeschen, Gloria Gonzales, Gambrell-Toliver, Dunn, Smith, Cross,
Randolph, Castro and Jordan
Absent 5 - Lofton, McDade, Brown, Truss and Johnson
Excused 2 - Alcantara and Headley
3. Discussion of Safe Social Media Practices Program
Mr. Arnold offered assistant to develop a new proyect. #slogan to focus on safe social
media practices.
Council decided on #oureyesonly
Members were directed to submit stories, scenarios, scripts to Mr. Arnold within the
next three weeks. PID will review scripts, than coordinate with council members for
recording the campaign to be able to post in all media outlets for youth to view.
4. Participation on Black History Month Celebration
Ms. McHenry said that Youth Council are encouraged to volunteer for the program.
5. Development of 2017-2018 Milwaukee Youth Council Priorities
Based on prior meeting discussion, Council decided to focused on Youth Mental
Health Issues. Possible priority to be added, Immigration - DACA recipients
concerns.
Members Hoeschen said that after meeting with Ald. Murphy, being that he is chair of
the Housing Trus Fund Advisory Board, suggested helping Youth Council to allocate
funds for the use of Youth Homelessness and possibly fund for a youth homeless
shelter. Ald. Murphy asked that Youth Council submits an RFP to be considered by
Housing Trust Fund Advisory Board.
Member Jordan suggested for council to start searching for an already establised
organization that can join forces for administer the youth shelter. Housing Trust Fund
monies can only be allocated to acquire property not to cover operations expenses.

6. Fashion Walk for Foundations for Freedom
Member Castro said that Fashion Walk for Foundation for Freedom is waiting to be
endorsed by Milwaukee Youth Council Social Media pages. She hopes Milwaukee
Youth Council can attend this event.There is no age requirement to participate. Family
and friends are also welcome.
Members Hoeschen asked member Castro to forward the event's information for it to
be post on Youth Council webpage.
7. Hamilton College Study of Youth Councils
Ms. Polanco took a roll call to identify the members that are participating in the survey.
Dead line is February 28, 2018. All consent forms are to be submitted to Ms. Polanco
for her to send to Hamilton College.
8. Meeting adjourned at 5:23 PM

meeting, this meeting may also simultaneously constitute a meeting of the Common Council or any of
the following committees: Community and Economic Development, Finance and Personnel, Judiciary
and Legislation, Licenses, Public Safety, Public Works, Zoning, Neighborhoods & Development,
and/or Steering and Rules. Whether a simultaneous meeting is occurring depends on whether the
presence of one or more of the Common Council member results in a quorum of the Common
Council or any of the above committees, and, if there is a quorum of another committee, whether any
agenda items listed above involve matters within that committee’s realm of authority. In the event that
a simultaneous meeting is occurring, no action other than information gathering will be taken at the
simultaneous meeting.

tickets must be validated in the first floor Information Booth in City Hall.
Persons engaged in lobbying as defined in s. 305-43-4 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances are
required to register with the City Clerk's Office License Division. Registered lobbyists appearing
before a Common Council committee are required to identify themselves as such. More information
