200 E. Wells Street City of Milwaukee Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53202 Meeting Minutes YOUTH COUNCIL Wednesday, November 14, 2018 4:30 PM Room 303, City Hall 1. Call to Order. 2. Roll Call. Present 9 - Gonzales, Gambrell-Toliver, Dunn, Castro, Headley, Jordan, Jones, Reed and Melendez Absent 3 - Lofton, McDade and Smith Excused 2 - Alcantara and Young 3. Discussion with Mr. Paul W. Florsheim to discuss a possible collaboration with the UW-M School of Public Health. Mr. Florsheim is UWM professor looking for Youth Council member to participate on interview panels regarding adolescent development. This item will be schedule at December 12th, Youth Council meeting. 4. Guest speakers for 2018-19 term. MPS Superintendant Wisconsin Governor Bucks player Reggie Jackson Health Dept Commissioner MPD Chief Mayor 5. Volunteering as a group at an organization. Members encouraged to have a presence in the community as Milwaukee Youth Council. 6. Christmas Toy Drive 2018/2019. To participate in a toy/hat/scarf drive sponsored by district 2. 7. Proposal to have MYC members attend town hall meetings with their council members. Youth Council members were encouraged to attend their district's town hall meetings to shadow the work of their council member and also be able to possibly recruit future City of Milwaukee Page 1 YOUTH COUNCIL Meeting Minutes November 14, 2018 youth council members. 8. High School and College fairs for 2019. To coordinate college fair to high schools students, having council members mentor, offer guidance and encouragement to other students that may less fortunate. 9. Possible group attendance at Milwaukee Bucks game. 10. Creation of a Shared MYC Event Calendar. To develop or create an electronic calendar to be share on some type of media outlet. 11. Planning for Spring 2019 luncheon with council members. 12. Meeting adjourned at 5:16 PM Joanna Polanco In the event that Common Council members who are not members of this committee attend this meeting, this meeting may also simultaneously constitute a meeting of the Common Council or any of the following committees: Community and Economic Development, Finance and Personnel, Judiciary and Legislation, Licenses, Public Safety, Public Works, Zoning, Neighborhoods & Development, and/or Steering and Rules. Whether a simultaneous meeting is occurring depends on whether the presence of one or more of the Common Council member results in a quorum of the Common Council or any of the above committees, and, if there is a quorum of another committee, whether any agenda items listed above involve matters within that committee’s realm of authority. In the event that a simultaneous meeting is occurring, no action other than information gathering will be taken at the simultaneous meeting. Upon reasonable notice, efforts will be made to accommodate the needs of persons with disabilities through sign language interpreters or auxiliary aids. For additional information or to request this service, contact the City Clerk's Office ADA Coordinator at 286-2998, (FAX)286-3456, (TDD)286-2025 or by writing to the Coordinator at Room 205, City Hall, 200 E. Limited parking for persons attending meetings in City Hall is available at reduced rates (5 hour limit) at the Milwaukee Center on the southwest corner of East Kilbourn and North Water Street. Parking tickets must be validated in the first floor Information Booth in City Hall. Persons engaged in lobbying as defined in s. 305-43-4 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances are required to register with the City Clerk's Office License Division.
