Sponsors: THE CHAIR Member Richardson commented. The proposed ordinance would address the concerns of Ald. Jose Perez relative to covered accessory structures in residential yards. The proposed ordinance would define “open pavilions” and “pergolas” as two additional types of accessory structures and would establish design standards for them. Pergola would be defined as an uncovered or partially covered structure. An open pavilion would be defined as a covered structure over a patio. The total lot coverage of all accessory structures which are subject to inclusion in the lot coverage calculation shall not exceed 15% of the lot area. Total lot coverage may be increased to 22% if at least 7% of the coverage is for an open pavilion. Member Wilson said there were no legal concerns from her and no enforcement concerns from member Mannan, who was not present. Member Richardson moved that the proposed ordinance meets the standards of legality and enforceability, administrative efficiency, and consistency with the format of the zoning code. Seconded by member Wilson. There was no objection. Sponsors: THE CHAIR In the event that Common Council members who are not members of this committee attend this meeting, this meeting may also simultaneously constitute a meeting of the Common Council or any of the following committees: Community and Economic Development, Finance and Personnel, Judiciary and Legislation, Licenses, Public Safety and Health, Public Works, Zoning, Neighborhoods & Development, and/or Steering and Rules. Whether a simultaneous meeting is occurring depends on whether the presence of one or more of the Common Council member results in a quorum of the Common Council or any of the above committees, and, if there is a quorum of another committee, whether any agenda items listed above involve matters within that committee’s realm of authority. In the event that a simultaneous meeting is occurring, no action other than information gathering will be taken at the simultaneous meeting.
