CITY OF MONROE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MINUTES DATE: MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2026 TIME: 4:45 PM PLACE: COUNCIL CHAMBERS - 1110 18TH AVENUE A. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL The meeting was called to order on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 4:45 PM. Present in person were Corinne Wartenweiler, Lynne Kleven, Matt Sheaffer, and Craig Franke. B. CORRECTION OF MINUTES - JANUARY 26, 2026 The January 26, 2026, minutes were accepted as presented. C. BUSINESS PRESENTED BY POLICE DEPARTMENT 1. Discussion and Possible Action Regarding the MWM Engineering City of Monroe Downtown Parking Study Administrator Rindy reviewed her memo and outlined staff recommendations focused on improving parking availability and enhancing crosswalk safety. Staff met in January to review the study, develop recommendations, and share them with Main Street Monroe. Discussion included creating consistent parking lot names and improving directional signage, such as standardized names like “12th Street Lot,” while noting that too many signs could clutter the downtown area. The group also discussed reviewing all wayfinding signage, considering blinking crosswalks for added safety, and removing one corner parking stall. 2. Approval and Recommendation of Special Event Permit: Harley's Hustle 5K A motion was made by Franke, seconded by Kleven, to approve and recommend to Common Council . The motion passed 4-0, by the following vote: AYES: Lynne Kleven, Corinne Wartenweiler, Matt Sheaffer, Craig Franke NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAINED: None D. BUSINESS BY MEMBERS Alder Kleven informed the committee of a complaint she received that cars are not paying attention at the stoplights near Stop N Go, creating potential safety concerns with people in the crosswalks. E. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Kleven, seconded by Wartenweiler, to adjourn at 5:11 PM. The motion passed 4-0, by the following vote: AYES: Lynne Kleven, Corinne Wartenweiler, Matt Sheaffer, Craig Franke NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAINED: None This Committee may take any action it considers appropriate related to any item on this agenda.
