President Brolley called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. II. Roll Call Trustee Matt Bauman Yea Trustee Steve Jungermann Yea Trustee Ben Brzoska Yea Trustee Doug Marecek Absent Trustee Dan Gier Yea Trustee Theresa Sperling Absent Village Clerk Debbie Buchanan Yea Also present: Village Administrator Jeff Zoephel, Assistant Village Manager Meghan Ostreko, Director of Community Development Sonya Abt, Director of Public Works Mark Wolf, Director of Finance Chris Minick, and Communications Manager Kristina Nemetz. Trustee Sperling joined the meeting at 4:06 pm. III. Items for Discussion A. Current Trends in Economic Development – Kyle Schulz, CMAP Deputy of Strategic Advancement provided advice on balancing between business attraction, business retention/expansion; and “economic gardening”: investing in community businesses to seed their growth. He reviewed municipal best practices and emphasized that the Chicago area is a $1 trillion economy and housing growth is a critical advantage to demonstrate we can supply the workforce needed. B. ED Director Hiring Process –Administrator Zoephel asked everyone to review the previous job posting and provide feedback by May 29th. It was decided to also compare Sonya’s job description as well as job descriptions from Kane and Kendall County. Staff will interview and then there will be a board interview. C. ED Committee Membership –It was generally agreed that it would be helpful to have people on this committee who are educated and really invested in the future of Montgomery. IV. Other Business – Administrator Zoephel provided an update on ISCS, after which staff provided an update on current development projects. Great concern was expressed about the widening of Route 30 and Mark was asked to get an update on that and to inquire about the timing of the light at the PD. V. Next Meeting – June 18th VI. III. Items for Discussion A. Kane County EDC – Michael Cassa, Executive Director of the Kane County EDC discussed their mission and how the County and Village might work together on development. B. Prior Meeting Updates – Staff updated the Board on the expiration dates of existing boundary agreements, the Route 30/Orchard Road intersection improvements, the responsibilities of Community Development versus Economic Development, and the parcels available for development. C. Residential Development - Staff provided updates on residential developments either currently building or looking to develop. D. Industrial Development – Staff provided updates on current industrial projects. E. Commercial Development – Staff provided updates on current commercial projects. IV. Other Business V.
