Mundelein Community Days Commission March 19, 2026 Meeting Minutes CALL TO ORDER The Mundelein Community Days Commission was held on March 19, 2026 at 300 Plaza Circle, Mundelein. Chairperson Salski called the meeting to order at 8:00 AM. ATTENDANCE Chairperson Salski took the roll call. It indicated as follows: Board Attendance PRESENT: Commissioner Biegel, Commissioner Ditanto, Commissioner Salski, Commissioner Newby, Commissioner Poletto ABSENT: Commissioner Quaiyoom, Commissioner Krummick Village Attendance PRESENT: Kelsey Howe, Business Services Manager, Brian Kisselburg, Commander ABSENT: MINUTES APPROVAL Approval of the February 19, 2026 Minutes Motion to approve the Febuary 19, 2026, Mundelein Community Days Commission Regular Meeting Minutes. RESULT: Passed [Yes 5, No 0, Abstained 0] MOVER: Commissioner Karrie Newby SECONDER: Commissioner Virginia Biegel AYES: Virginia Biegel, Laura Ditanto, Ron Salski, Karrie Newby, Bob Poletto NAYS: None ABSTAIN: None PUBLIC COMMENTARY There was no public commentary. 2026 MUNDELEIN DAYS PLANNING Layout Liaison Howe mentioned the bridge over Courtland Commons creek was installed and will require addtional police staff to monitor. Budget There was no report. Sponsorship Commissioner Newby said the next sponsorship e-blast will go out next week. A second star-level sponsor was added. The American Legion is donating at the Diamond Level. $28,480 in donations have been collected so far. Fireworks There was no report. Parade The parade application is posted. The request for the Navy band has been submitted. Most paid parade participants have been booked. Carnival Commissioner Poletto said he was securing volunteers for the carnival. Liaison Howe will confirm the carnival times/dates. Pageant Commissioner Biegel said no Queens placed at the Lake County Pageant, but Miss Mundelein won Ms. Congeniality and a scholarship. Commissioner Biegel submitted the facility rental application to the High School. A new pageant photographer was secured. Trustee Schwenk will be filling in for Mayor Meier at the Pageant. Music There was no report. Munch / Food Vendors The Munch Food Vendor application is posted. Five vendors have applied. Beer Booth El Barrio Restaurant asked if they could serve margaritas at the festival. The Police Department will not permit this. Special Events The cost for a new pony ride and petting zoo vendor has increased from $1500 to $3200 and a tent for shade is required. Chairperson Salski will reach out to his contacts for other vendors. The Commission agreed not to hold the horseshoe tournament. Liaison Howe said the Historical Commission was planning a History Day event at the museum in conjunction with the festival. Liaison Howe will reach out to Tighthead about possibly hosting a Bags tournamnet. Comments Liaison Howe said any request for payment to any vendor is needed by June 10 if payment is expected at or before the festival. CONCERTS IN THE PARK The Kirk Players and Mundelein Arts Commission will perform Shakespeare at the August 23 meeting. Commissioner Quaiyoom is still seeking bands for August 9 and August 30 performances. MEMORIAL DAY PARADE Liaison Howe asked for the speaker bio and will update the schedule for this year's event. NEW BUSINESS There was no new business. ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:35 AM. This would add about $700 to the rental. The Commission agreed it was in the best interest of the attendees to add the larger tent. Budget There was no report. Sponsorship Alef Sausage is the first Star Level sponsor. Commissioner Newby said $12,730 in donations have been generated so far, which is a significant increase over last year at this time. Fireworks There was no report. Parade The High School has confirmed the parade will be staged in their parking lot. The Commission discussed changing the parade route to Hawley to Seymour to Division. Motion to change the route to: east on Hawley St., south of Seymour Ave., east on Division St. and conclude at Metra. RESULT: Passed [Yes 6, No 0, Abstained 0] MOVER: Commissioner Virginia Biegel SECONDER: Commissioner Karrie Newby AYES: Virginia Biegel, Laura Ditanto, Ron Salski, Karrie Newby, Shah Quaiyoom, Michael Krummick NAYS: None Page 4 of 11 ABSTAIN: None The Commission discussed the theme of the parade should focus on America's 250th anniversary. Liaison Howe explained that the Navy band had reached out already, and she will fill out and submit their required form to secure their participation. Carnival There was no report. Pageant The Commission discussed moving the pageant to Saturday, June 27 at 5pm. Motion to move the pageant date to Saturday, June 27 at 5pm. RESULT: Passed [Yes 6, No 0, Abstained 0] MOVER: Commissioner Karrie Newby SECONDER: Commissioner Laura Ditanto AYES: Virginia Biegel, Laura Ditanto, Ron Salski, Karrie Newby, Shah Quaiyoom, Michael Krummick NAYS: None ABSTAIN: None Liaison Howe confirmed payment for applications can't be accepted online, but a credit card and/or check can be accepted at the Village Hall. Additional language regarding address verification will be added to the applications. Commissioner Biegel will send updated photos for the website and information for the e-newsletter to Freedom. Music There was no report. Munch / Food Vendors The application will be available mid-March. Prime Beef and Hitz has already inquired about being a vendor. Beer Booth The Commission discussed selling drinks, like High Noons. Commander Kisselburg will confirm if canned beverages can be served out of a can rather than poured in a cup. Commissioner Krummick discussed an alternative ticket to the roll of tickets. Page 5 of 11 Special Events The Commission agreed that adjusting the start of the festival on July 2 to 4pm to align with the carnival would be the best option. Bags will be replaced with pickleball. Liaison Howe will update the sponsor form. The Commission discussed the request for payment for the Hot Dog Eating Contest and agreed they would prefer to forego a donation in lieu of paying for the event. Comments There were no comments. CONCERTS IN THE PARK Commissioner Quaiyoom is seeking an alternative mariachi band and will book the additional concerts based on the remaining budget. A port-o-potty will be rented for the concerts series. MEMORIAL DAY PARADE The Commission agreed to maintain the route on Division St. as it was last year. NEW BUSINESS There was no new business.
