Mundelein Community Days Commission April 16, 2026 Meeting Minutes CALL TO ORDER The Mundelein Community Days Commission meeting was held on April 16, 2026 at 300 Plaza Circle, Mundelein. Chairperson Salski called the meeting to order at 8:00 AM. ATTENDANCE Clerk Walsh took the roll call. It indicated as follows: Board Attendance PRESENT: Commissioner Biegel, Commissioner Ditanto, Commissioner Salski, Commissioner Newby, Commissioner Quaiyoom, Commissioner Krummick, Commissioner Poletto ABSENT: Village Attendance PRESENT: Kelsey Howe, Business Services Manager; Jess Marvin, Special Events Coordinator; Brian Kisselburg, Commander MINUTES APPROVAL Approval of the March 19, 2026 Minutes Motion to approve the March 19, 2026 Mundelein Community Days Commission Meeting Minutes. RESULT: Passed [Yes 7, No 0, Abstained 0] MOVER: Commissioner Biegel SECONDER: Commissioner Ditanto AYES: Commissioner Biegel, Commissioner Ditanto, Commissioner Salski, Commissioner Newby, Commissioner Quaiyoom, Commissioner Krummick, Commissioner Poletto NAYS: None ABSTAIN: None PUBLIC COMMENTARY There was no public commentary. 2026 MUNDELEIN DAYS PLANNING Liaision Howe introduced Jess Marvin as the Village's newly-established Special Events Coordinator. Ms. Marvin will be taking on the role of Commission Liaison over the next couple of years while Liaison Howe will train Ms. Marvin and guide her through planning. Layout Liaison Howe said the bridge was installed and that ADA parking would be installed along Crystal St. as well. The large trees near the bridge were taken down. Liaison Howe will address the slippery grassy area between the Santa Maria parking lot and entrance to the arch. Budget Sponsorship Five of eight beer cup spots have been filled. The Commission has generated $41,830 in donations so far this year. The next solicitation will be a mailed letter sent out the week of May 4. Liaison Howe will generate an invoice for Mundelein Community Bank's pageant donation. Fireworks There was no report. Parade A few parade applications have been received. Liaison Howe was unable to book two paid participants. The staging setup, layout, and public works assistance will remain the same this year. Carnival The carnival will open at 5pm on Thursday, July 2. Wristbands will be available the same day from 5-9pm for $35. Wristbands will provide unlimited rides during that time for purchasers. Pageant Commissioner Biegel is working with the high school to determine security and sound and lighting fees. The Pageant Committee is seeking a location to host the contestant meeting on June 9. Fire Station 1, Diamond Lake, and the American Legion are options. Liaison Howe confirmed a 3% credit card fee is added to any application payments made at the Village Hall. The Village attorneys are currently reviewing the pageant application. The Pageant Committee has secured a new, locally based photographer. Barefoot Bay passes and carnival ride tickets will be provided to the Queens. Miss Mundelein Haezely Reid-Crawford received a entrepreneur award at the Lake County Pageant. Music Liaison Howe will book DJ Vince Magsino for July 2 to fill the space between bands. Munch / Food Vendors Nine food vendors have applied, including Luke's of Mundelein. Beer Booth The beer vendor confirmed domestic beer taps can be added to the other trailer to spread out the crowd. Liaison Howe will provide Commissioner Krummick with a list of current beverages served and the available vodka-based drinks. Special Events The caricature artist has confirmed participation. Mundelein History Day hosted by the Mundelein Historical Commission will be held on July 4 at the Heritage Museum. The pony rides and petting zoo are booked. Tighthead has agreed to host the bags tournament on the 4th of July at Tighthead. Chairperson Salski will provide the Pickleball Tournament times by mid-May. Comments Commissioner Quaiyoom suggested adding information about the bands in the schedule of events. Liaison Howe noted that Ms. Marvin is very proficient with social media giving more opportunities for advertising music, events, sponsors, etc. CONCERTS IN THE PARK Two dates are still available. Liaison Howe will reach out to the School of Rock to see if they are available on August 30. Commissioner Quiayoom will look for a Mariachi band for August 9, or reach out to Guitarra Azul. MEMORIAL DAY PARADE The event and schedule is live on the website. The Village will seek parade participants soon. Liaison Howe anticipates the lineup to be similar to last year's lineup. Commissioner Poletto will confirm if the VFW is hosting a per-parade ceremony at the Point. NEW BUSINESS There was no new business. ADJOURNMENT Motion to Adjourn the meeting at 8:35 AM. Page 3 of 10 Budget There was no report. Sponsorship Commissioner Newby said the next sponsorship e-blast will go out next week. A second star-level sponsor was added. The American Legion is donating at the Diamond Level. $28,480 in donations have been collected so far. Fireworks There was no report. Parade The parade application is posted. The request for the Navy band has been submitted. Most paid parade participants have been booked. Carnival Commissioner Poletto said he was securing volunteers for the carnival. Liaison Howe will confirm the carnival times/dates. Pageant Commissioner Biegel said no Queens placed at the Lake County Pageant, but Miss Mundelein won Ms. Congeniality and a scholarship. Commissioner Biegel submitted the facility rental application to the High School. A new pageant photographer was secured. Trustee Schwenk will be filling in for Mayor Meier at the Pageant. Music There was no report. Munch / Food Vendors The Munch Food Vendor application is posted. Five vendors have applied. Beer Booth El Barrio Restaurant asked if they could serve margaritas at the festival. The Police Department will not permit this. Special Events The cost for a new pony ride and petting zoo vendor has increased from $1500 to $3200 and a tent for shade is required. Chairperson Salski will reach out to his contacts Page 4 of 10 for other vendors. The Commission agreed not to hold the horseshoe tournament. Liaison Howe said the Historical Commission was planning a History Day event at the museum in conjunction with the festival. Liaison Howe will reach out to Tighthead about possibly hosting a Bags tournamnet. Comments Liaison Howe said any request for payment to any vendor is needed by June 10 if payment is expected at or before the festival. CONCERTS IN THE PARK The Kirk Players and Mundelein Arts Commission will perform Shakespeare at the August 23 meeting. Commissioner Quaiyoom is still seeking bands for August 9 and August 30 performances. MEMORIAL DAY PARADE Liaison Howe asked for the speaker bio and will update the schedule for this year's event.
