CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Wronski called the Advisory Commission on Disabilities Commission meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. B. ROLL CALL: Present 6- Lisa Cesal, Donielle Deering, Sherry Huang, Allison Longenbaugh, Suhel Siddiqui, and Thomas Wronski Absent 2- Wendy Pligge, and Ghousia Wajid Also present: Dawn Portner, City Clerk, Geneace Williams, DEI Manager, Grace Fratto, Special Events Coordinator, Student Representatives Romit Ghosh and Raghav Narsana (phone). C. PUBLIC FORUM: No comments for Public Forum D. REPORTS & RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. Receive an update on the City’s DEI program Dr. Geneace Williams discussed the meaning and purpose of the DEI initiatives within the City of Naperville, how her work centers around the City's four Core Values of People, Trust, Respect and Pride, she discussed the dimensions of diversity and identity and some of her program plans for the balance of 2024, such as the Human Library event at the 95th Street Library, community book read and a youth event. 2. Receive an update on the City’s Special Events Program Grace Fratto discussed the role of the Special Events Coordinator and the Special Events Team in planning over 60 events per year, how they both work with event organizers to ensure the City's events are compliant with City ordinances and codes, and the steps the teams takes to make sure the events are ADA compliant through the use of the Special Events Accessibility Checklist. 3. Receive an update from the Accessibility Community Task Force City of Naperville Page 1 Printed on 8/8/2024 Advisory Commission on Disabilities Meeting Minutes - Final May 1, 2024 Mary Hamill, Chair of the Accessibility Community Task Force (ACTF) updated the Commission on the following ACTF initiatives: 1) On March 6th, ACTF members Allaina Humphreys and Mary Hamill gave a presentation on Visitability at the City's Residential Builder's breakfast. Information was provided to the Commission on their presentation. 2) The ACTF presented their annual student awards at the City Council meeting on May 7th. a total of six students were recognized from Naperville School Districts' 203 and 204. 3) The ACTF has created a working group to learn more about the accessible icon project and to see about the possibility of using the new ADA icon in Naperville. 4) Hamill attended the April Riverwalk Planning, Design and Construction meeting and offered comments in support of additional benches along the Riverwalk. 5) Hamill also attended the April meeting of the Riverwalk Commission and participated in their annual asset management walk. 6) At the March ACTF meeting, Kelly Hickey, a Wheatland Township trustee presented information about services on the Township's website. Te ACTF plans on contacting the other Townships in the area to learn more about their services. E. OLD BUSINESS: 1. Approve the minutes of the February 7, 2024 Advisory Commission on Disabilities meeting Commissioner Siddiqui made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Cesal, to approve the Advisory Commission on Disabilities meeting minutes of February 7, 2024. The motion carried by a voice vote. F. NEW BUSINESS 1. Approve the submission of a proclamation for Naperville Special Olympics Day Chairman Wronski discussed the possibility of the City recognizing the Naperville area Special Olympians with a proclamation at one of the November Council meetings proclaiming November as "Naperville Special Olympics Day". This would also include a tour of the Municipal Building and a small reception. Portner will conduct some research on this topic and report back to the Commission at their August meeting. Other New Business: Portner gave an update on the City's sidewalk program that was first discussed at the February 2024 ACD meeting. She discussed the process T.E.D goes through when reviewing resurfing projects in the City which include the City of Naperville Page 2 Printed on 8/8/2024 Advisory Commission on Disabilities Meeting Minutes - Final May 1, 2024 inspection of sidewalks, the roles of the inspectors with reported sidewalk concerns, and how the City has repaired over 17 miles of sidewalk the past three years and have added over 9,000 feet of new sidewalks to fill in existing gaps. Longenbaugh stated that she hopes the City will revisit the possibility of the City covering 100% of the sidewalk replacement program during the 2025 budget discussions. Commissioner Wronski thanked Commissioner Huang for her service on the ACD Commission for the past three years. Huang decided not to seek a second term on the Commission. G. ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Siddiqui made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Deering, to adjourn the Advisory Commission on Disabilities meeting of May 1, 2024 at 7:36 p.m..
