CALL TO ORDER: I would like to call the Board of Fire and Police Meeting for September 7, 2021 to order. Pursuant to Section 120/7(e) of the Illinois Open Meetings Act, the continuation of the Governor’s disaster proclamation, and Mayor Chirico’s executive order determining that in-person public meetings are not currently practical or prudent because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are holding this Board of Fire and Police Commission meeting remotely. The commissioners and staff participating in tonight’s meeting are all in different locations in accordance with social distancing guidelines, and steps have been taken to ensure that the Commissioners can hear one another and all discussion and testimony. The public has been provided notice of alternative means of access to the meeting so they are able to contemporaneously hear all discussion, testimony and votes. All votes shall be taken by roll call. B. ROLL CALL: Present 5- Shafeek Abubaker, Ronald Davidson, Mike King, Mark Wright, and Kirsten Young C. NEW BUSINESS: Review and approve open session minutes from August 24, 2021 Review and approve open session minutes from August 24, 2021 A motion was made by Commissioner King and seconded by Commissioner Wright Aye 5- Abubaker Davidson King Wright Young F. REPORTS: 1. Police Department Report Homicide on Sunday 8/30; Individuals are in custody and have been charged Continuing to pull guns off the streets Last Fling over the weekend went smoothly 2. Fire Department Report Deployed 3 members of Fire Department to Louisiana to help with hurricane; members were able to quickly assist the community and return after a week 1 critical transport at the parade over the weekend; a 70-year-old had a heart attack; FD was able to assist him and get him transported to the hospital quickly G. CLOSED SESSION: 4:36 p.m. - 4:50 p.m. H. ACTION ITEMS: Remove/Continue in the process police officer lateral candidate #26 A motion was made by Chairman Young and seconded by Commissioner Wright to REMOVE from the process police officer lateral candidate #26 Aye 5- Abubaker Davidson King Wright Young Remove/Continue in the process police officer candidate #18 A motion was made by Commissioner King and seconded by Commissioner Wright to REMOVE from the process police officer lateral candidate #18 Aye 5- Abubaker Davidson King Wright Young City of Naperville Page 2 Printed on 9/23/2021 Board of Fire and Police Meeting Minutes September 7, 2021 Approve the authorization to hire firefighter/paramedic candidates #1 and 3 and firefighter/paramedic candidates #88 and 91 (from the list expired on 11/24/20) A motion was made by Commissioner Abubaker and seconded by Commissioner Davidson to authorize hire for firefighter/paramedic candidates #88 and 91. Firefighter/paramedic candidate #1 withdrew from the process. Firefighter/paramedic candidate #3 did not have results in to vote on. Aye 5- Abubaker Davidson King Wright Young Approve continuing in the process firefighter/paramedic candidates #8 and 11 A motion was made by Commissioner Wright and seconded by Chairman Young to continue in the process firefighter/paramedic candidates #3 and 8. Firefighter/Paramedic candidate #11 did not have results back to vote on. Aye 5- Abubaker Davidson King Wright Young APPROVE/DENY the appeal request for firefighter/paramedic candidate #17 A motion was made by Commissioner Davidson and seconded by Commissioner King to DENY the appeal request of firefighter/paramedic candidate #17 Aye 5- Abubaker Davidson King Wright Young Review and approve the executive summary closed meeting minutes from January 28, 2020 A motion was made by Commissioner Abubaker and seconded by Commissioner Wright Aye 5- Abubaker Davidson King Wright Young I.
