CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Scott Wehrli called the meeting to order 8:04 a.m. B. ROLL CALL: Also Present: Macarena (Rena) Tamayo-Calabrese, President & CEO; Harriet M. Pistorio, Chief Operating Officer; Alexandra A. Atkinson, Director of Finance; Andrea de la Torre, Project Specialist; Cyndi Lopez, Guest Services Team Leader; Marcie Schatz, Assistant to the City Manager; Deborah George, Student Representative; Julia Klabel, Student Representative; Present 7- Leanne Meyer-Smith, Phillip Petti, Lee Quillinan, Alan Tang, Scott Wehrli, Julie Schremser, and Erik Long Absent 1- Josh McBroom C. PUBLIC FORUM: Mary Hamill from ACTF Accessible Community Task Force complimented Naper Settlement on the Sensory Friendly Saturdays for Autism. It was easy to find on the website and Naper Settlement was quick to respond to her questions. D. OLD BUSINESS: 1. Receive 2025 Deferred maintenance Update Harriet M. Pistorio reviewed the 2025 Deferred maintenance projects. There were no questions or comments. 2. Receive Naper Settlement Master Plan Update Harriet M. Pistorio explained Naper Settlement is working with Wight & Co. on the Master Plan. Macarena (Rena) Tamayo-Calabrese explained the Master Plan is looking into the next 10 to 15 years. This plan will activate all 13 acres with innovation, education, history, a communicative piece, landscape, and integrate with the city of Naperville. 3. Receive Permaculture Garden Information Harriet M. Pistorio discussed the outline of the Permaculture Garden which is native to Illinois. Planting will be taking place this weekend and it incorporates vegetables and fruits which will be donated to the food pantry. Macarena (Rena) Tamayo-Calabrese explained that the Permaculture Garden is also about science, growth, nutrition, and helping kids make a connection with Agriculture. Lee Quillinan asked if the Permaculture Garden will be tied to Camp Naper? Harriet M. Pistorio responded yes, that it is in the summer program guide. Macarena (Rena) Tamayo-Calabrese explained that all camps have been sold out. Mayor Scott Wehrli asked if FFA Future Farmers of America are interested in some of the things Naper Settlement is doing? Macarena (Rena) Tamayo-Calabrese informed everyone that we are in the conversations with FFA at Naperville North High School. Pistorio discussed ticket sales for the top billing WAR which is going well along with country music sales. However most tickets sales occur the week of the concert event. Macarena (Rena) Tamayo-Calabrese informed all of the success we have by offering different genres of music. Lee Quillinan asked about ticket prices. Harriet M. Pistorio explained that our ticket price is very reasonable. Macarena (Rena) Tamayo-Calabrese explained that we are the least expensive compared to other music events bringing these same bands. 2. DCEO 200K Grant Harriet M. Pistorio explained that we received the DCEO Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity award for 200K for the HVAC in the Century Memorial Chapel. Naper Settlement has a CIP request to the city for 398K and that the 200K will be used to offset the cost. No questions or comments. 3. Kubota 50K Grant Harriet M. Pistorio explained we submitted a 50K grant to Kubota Foundation a tractor and machinery company. 25K would be for equipment and the other 25K for a programmatic piece. If successful, we would use 25K for the sensory garden to refresh and upgrade the playscape. The other 25K would be for a utility golf cart to haul things around the grounds. Marcie Schatz asked if Naper Settlement is seeing any impact on the federal level with grants? Macarena (Rena) Tamayo-Calabrese answered that the industry as a whole is very concerned. We have a grant out for NEA National Endowment for the Arts and NEH National Endowments for Humanities. We focus on where the money is and for the purpose needed. Alex Atkinson followed up saying that the federal grants that we already had committed were executed so there was no fall out. F. REPORTS: 1. Receive the approved agreement between the City of Naperville and Naperville Heritage Society regarding Naper Settlement Mayor Scott Wehril mentioned that the agreement between the City of Naperville and Naperville Heritage Society was approved by the City Council unanimously. The Mayor thanked Erik Long, Macarena (Rena) Tamayo-Calabrese, Harriet Pistorio, and Marcie Schatz for all the work and leadership in getting this completed. Macarena (Rena) Tamayo-Calabrese thanked the Mayor and City staff for their efforts and the professional and respectful manner with which it was handled throughout. 2. Receive CY25 Attendance Demographic Tracking Report for April 2025 Harriet M. Lee Quillinan expressed concerns about dwindling attendance to the museums primary vision. Harriet M. Pistorio explained we are making more focus on the user and meet with the John Falk the author on Leaning Into Value to becoming a user-focused museum to increase attendance along with award winning programming and working on the AG building exhibit. Macarena (Rena) Tamayo-Calabrese informed everyone that home school kid field trips to Naper Settlement are on the rise. We are also working on a program outside the museum connecting cultural tourism and sports tourism. The completed capitol campaign Stem Lab space has been very successful. 3. Receive and approve minutes from February 7, 2025, NSMB meeting Mayor Scott Wehrli requested a motion to approve the minutes from the February 7, 2025 NSMB Board meeting. This report was unanimously approved. 4. Receive and approve the Naper Settlement Financial Reports from January, February, & March 2025 Alex Atkinson focused on the financials ending March 2025. At 256K Naper Settlement is at 45% of the annual budget which is great news largely in success to Camp Naper. The expenses are under about 9% year to date. No questions or comments. Mayor Scott Wehrli requested a motion to approve the NS financial reports from January, February, & March of 2025. This report was unanimously approved. Absent: 1- McBroom G.
